So IM trying to figure out my strategy here. I have NY and Utah...My PA is Expired... so by the looks PA and Illinois are NO GO...but I cant find or see any storage/transport guides for traveling through these states...normally I have a Lock box in my car with unloaded firearm storage for traveling no goes but want to make sure I do carry through those states Properly............Any advice......I gotta get to PA to renew maybe this will be good time to do that and get that redone!!

Federal law, specifically 18 U.S.C. § 926A, allows for the interstate transportation of firearms for any lawful purpose, provided the firearm is unloaded and neither the firearm nor ammunition is readily accessible from the passenger compartment of the vehicle.

NY permit is good for vehicle carry in PA otherwise it's an open carry state , not too many people realize this.

It appears you're fine carrying a loaded pistol in your vehicle through both states, no need to separate ammo and gun, lock gun in box, etc. IL does require that it's locked in a box if you leave the vehicle unattended.

I would suggest dropping a couple of dollars on the CCW app for your phone, it has all of the up-to-date info you need to keep from getting jammed up (CCW – Concealed Carry 50 State - Apps on Google Play)

PA 6102: Firearms not to be carried without a license.
(a) Offense defined. --
(1) Except as provided in paragraph (2), any person whocarries a firearm in any vehicle or any person who carries afirearm concealed on or about his person, except in his placeof abode or fixed place of business, without a valid andlawfully issued license under this chapter commits a felonyof the third degree.

(12) A person who has a lawfully issued license to carrya firearm pursuant to section 6109 (relating to licenses) andthat said license expired within six months prior to the dateof arrest and that the individual is otherwise eligible forrenewal of the license.
(13) Any person who is otherwise eligible to possess afirearm under this chapter and who is operating a motorvehicle which is registered in the person's name or the nameof a spouse or parent and which contains a firearm for whicha valid license has been issued pursuant to section 6109 tothe spouse or parent owning the firearm.
(14) A person lawfully engaged in the interstatetransportation of a firearm as defined under 18 U.S.C. 921(a)(3) (relating to definitions) in compliance with 18U.S.C. 926A (relating to interstate transportation offirearms).
(15) Any person who possesses a valid and lawfullyissued license or permit to carry a firearm which has beenissued under the laws of another state, regardless of whethera reciprocity agreement exists between the Commonwealth andthe state under section 6109(k), provided:
(i) The state provides a reciprocal privilege forindividuals licensed to carry firearms under section 6109.
(ii) The Attorney General has determined that thefirearm laws of the state are similar to the firearmlaws of this Commonwealth.

(e) Nothing in this Act shall prohibit a non-resident from transporting a concealed firearm within his or her vehicle in Illinois, if the concealed firearm remains within his or her vehicle and the non-resident:

(2) is eligible to carry a firearm in public under the laws of his or her state or territory of residence, as evidenced by the possession of a concealed carry license or permit issued by his or her state of residence, if applicable; and
(3) is not in possession of a license under this Act.
If the non-resident leaves his or her vehicle unattended, he or she shall store the firearm within a locked vehicle or locked container within the vehicle in accordance with subsection (b) of Section 65 of this Act.

we have been traveling for 4 years now, I just keep the guns and ammo separate and locked. If you do that, You should be good-to-go. The only exception I have is my EDC Glock, it is usually close by even if we are driving. The only time this maybe an issue is if you get stopped. But the chances of me getting stopped are pretty slim. I DO NOT speed, and I make sure every light on the coach is working.
If we're in a "restricted state" I keep it in the back of the coach, If I need it, my wife is nimble enough to go retrieve it fairly quickly.
I don't even worry about shit like this. Im more worried about getting creamed by an idiot on their phone. If you get in a major crash, then it might turn into an problem. Otherwise, Im like ~~~MEH!!!
