A debate at the Alabama State House centers on this question: Should people be required to have a concealed carry permit in order to carry concealed firearms?

Law enforcement from across the state filled the House Public Safety and Homeland Security Committee meeting in Montgomery Wednesday. Most were there in opposition to Senate Bill 24.

So know the cops are deciding the People's laws. WTF is wrong with this country. They swore oaths to protect the constitution. Guess oaths have no meaning. If that's the case then the law is in the same boat.

I support LE, however the police enforce the law, the do not and should not have any input on the creation of laws, beyond the voting rights we all share.

I can understand there position, I know several times I have thought who is the "Knuckle head who gave him a gun" but I have to repeat what the law of the land is "Shall Not Be Infringed"

On a side note my daughter is away in Tuscaloosa Alabama in college and she went to get her Pistol permit with a friend of hers and after completing all of the paper work the Sheriff asked, Do you have a gun? do need help to purchase one, Do you know where to shoot around here, Do you know how to shoot? He offered to meet the kids at a local outdoor range to show them how to safely use a gun. My daughter explained she been shooting with me since she was 14.

Nothing too much said here for the MAJORITY of LEO in Alabama that are 100% against this bill.

It is the Cheifs of Police Association. Read the whole article. The headline is Fake News click bait.
The Alabama Sheriff's Association, Police Chiefs Association and Fraternal Order of Police are all opposed to the bill.
This does not mean that rank and file police were begging the legislature to kill the bill.

and then there is this:
Jefferson County Sheriff Mike Hale took a different stand.
"Please uphold the constitution," Hale told the committee. "Let's do that today by voting this bill out of committee."

Hale stood with with the NRA and BamaCarry. He told the committee citizens shouldn't have to pay money to exercise their second amendment right.

"Look, it's not easy to be one of the few sheriffs going against the other sheriffs, but it's certainly not about money for me," Hale told ABC 33/40. "The argument for public safety and officer safety does not hold water with the states that have already passed this."

Then comes the progressive who by being a "progressive" lacks the mental capability to think critically.
Rep. Chris England (D-Tuscaloosa) said if lawmakers reject the bill and Alabama continues to require a permit, that is still in line with the constitution.

"Our supreme court has already said it's not a license to carry whenever, wherever, however or what kind of weapon you want," England told his colleagues.

Why assume the derision is directed at you. It is not, at least not from me. I know where you stand. But all these overly political Chiefs, they gotta go.

Chiefs in places like that are the worst because they are wholly employed at the whims of politicians. At least here there's a few good ones (although never at the very top), who gladly assume their "buried" positions due to supporting unpopular people and positions. They can't be fired so who cares?

Its a broken system. Law enforcement agencies should be as isolated from poltics as possible.

I don't see that happening ever. Every type of law has it's "experts" which will always be consulted by pols considering bills. Our concern for firearms rights just happens to overlap with public safety, so naturally it will be the police leaders pols talk to. We just have to hope that the politicized ones are ignored.
