Separately, drag racer Big Daddy Don Garlits, briefly retired from drag racing and tried his hand at announcing. He was walking through the pits and came across a crowd of racers looking at Warren Johnson's engine. Johnson had fashioned a crude cover around his intake manifold to hide it from inquiring eyes. After interviewing the gawking racers and much discussion with the other announcers in the booth, someone asked Big Daddy what he thought Johnson was hiding.
Big said he wasn't hiding anything, it was just 'intellectual intercourse'.
Big Daddy Don Garlits never announced for them again.
