Poll: If you could change one aspect of the current NYS Gun Laws..

If your Fairy Godmother (or Lucifer or whomever) came to you and allowed ONE change to the New York State gun laws, which would you want over the others?

Personally I probably hate the 10 round limit the most right now.. I see all these cheap 30 round AR/MSR mags, and I have to pay extra to get only 10 rounds. (or even more if I want 30 round mag pinned to 10)

If I didn't have my pistol permit I'd consider that option.

Not personally a fan of Open Carry, I don't have enough training to be comfortable with that yet.

Suppressors... I spend too much money on guns now, if we could have those too? Would be nice for my hearing though..

Assault Weapons part.. that'd probably be a close second after the mag capacity limits. I recently shot a friend's fixed-mag AR with pistol grip compared to my Thorsden AR.. night and day, so much more comfortable. My wrist hurts after using the Thorsden.

I do have my unrestricted permit but I still hate the whole process.

Nationally Id like to see the NICS go away, or be fixed. If you are not a felon, you get a gun.....period!
Ive seen too many people get denied because of mistakes and lesser crimes that should not make you unable to own a gun. Then, when denied by mistake, good luck fixing it, with or without an attorney it will take you a couple years..........and youve done NOTHING wrong.
And yes, my friend is going through this now. NICS will not even look at his appeal for 19 MONTHS!!!

If I were to change just one single aspect it would be to have the entirety of them, regarding anyone other than convicted violent felons, people who have been adjudicated as potentially violent mentally ill persons, or non-citizen/non-legal permanent residents, declared unconstitutional an thus eliminated.

Of course I would like them all gone but if Cuomo himself said to choose only one, I'd choose the mag restriction to be removed.

The reason being is strictly function. I can still get a pistol via permit. I can still shoot an AR with a Thordsen.

Ten rounds is crippling when it comes to firepower downrange.

If I was a liberal and really wanted to limit the plebians, I'd let them have whatever gun they wanted but limit their firepower via magazines.

The survey got me thinking though- what would a state with no permit required look like? I know knee jerk reaction is "great"... But is it really? I imagine that the permitting/ background check process weeds out some people who probably shouldn't have a gun (people with violent priors...) but then, doesn't that mean that we're taking a liberal approach to the 2A? If it's truly a god-given right, then everyone should be able to carry regardless, no?

That's my thought on the matter also.. I don't even own a 'fullsize' handgun because '10 round mags' are often times more expensive than 'standard capacity'..

One thing to mention, I always hate when (it) is called an assault weapon. If used as such, anything is a assault weapon. Assaulted with a Bat, tire iron, keys, rolled up magazine under the ribs etc....

The guy at our local gun shop says hes seen more denials in the last few years than ever. The problem is, NOT ONE was a legitimate denial. Most were "you or someone with your characteristics is prohibited from owning a gun". Whether it is a common name or address or dropped charges, people are being denied wrongly. I can see that logic. But at the same time i can't help but feel as though we're throwing out the baby with the bath water by saying that people who have violent records should be armed (same arguement protecting hate speech applies here... If the worst thing a person can say is protected under the law then it guarantees 1A rights for the rest of us.) I guess that goes back to the assumption that america has a gun problem and not a violence problem.

As always, the government exercising people control and billing it as gun control. "Do something we don't like and not only will we throw you in jail but you can't vote, serve in the military, or own a gun."

My concern isn't about DUIs or non-violent felons... I'm with you there. My concern is with people who have violent felonies... YES they can get a gun on the street, but does that mean that the government should help them get the same gun? What's the point of any laws at that point? "No, you're not allowed to do that but since you're going to do it anyway here you go."

balancing the protection of everyone's rights gets dicey. The liberals take that conundrum and run away with it.
