exactly what Im hearing. The Port of LA won't allow any trucks in, that are 2010 or older, period.
Also Im hearing and reading that China is having a huge energy problem. The CCP has cut back their electrical output because their power plants run on COAL!!! and they are running out of coal. Want to guess what country has BILLIONS of tons of coal, that NO ONE is mining? ya, America could be selling coal to CCP. I read that some province's are working only 4 days a week, they use to work 18 hours a day, 6 days a week. now they cut way back because of their energy issue.

Ports of NY and NJ were headed in this direction as well. No non-emission trucks permitted. May have paused that, maybe not. I was looking into grabbing an inexpensive older tractor and yanking cans as a side gig a few years back and was put right off it by the carriers insistence on newer trucks.

80K Containers Pile Up as Biden's Supply Chain Crisis Hits Port of Savannah

President Biden and his administration — allegedly including Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg — pledged last week that they were on top of the supply chain crisis that's further fueling inflation and product shortages. Rather than their words spurring quick action or substantive fixes, the crisis continues to spread.
At the Port of Savannah, roughly 80,000 containers have piled up in and around the facility. And even The New York Times — usually sympathetic to Democrat messaging priorities — is calling out the crisis. One it says in its report "is likely to persist."
The supply chain crisis that's spun out of control on Biden and Buttigieg's watch has "forced ships to wait at sea for more than nine days" while attempting to unload in Savannah. "On a recent afternoon, more than 20 ships were stuck in the queue, anchored up to 17 miles off the coast in the Atlantic," notes The New York Times. "That these tensions are playing out even in Savannah attests to the magnitude of the disarray."

A shortage of everything is only intensifying all across the nation as the all-important holiday season approaches and thousands of cargo ships remain stuck outside key US ports while millions of containers are in rail yards waiting to get unloaded amid a lack of workers and truckers. A couple of months ago, President Biden assured Americans that supply chain bottlenecks and price spikes would reduce as our economy continues to "heal," and appointed a "port envoy" to work with Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg. But now, the truth is finally coming out, and the outlook doesn't look pretty. During a recent interview with Bloomberg, Buttigieg admitted that some of the supply chain problems that we are currently facing are likely to last for “years and years”. Last Thursday, he also told MSNBC that this is “an incredibly complicated situation,” and even though the government is holding virtual “roundtables” with port operators, labor unions, and private companies, the “challenges” will continue, not only “going into the next year or two, but going into the long term.” It's truly shocking how the outlook for our economic future has changed so drastically in a matter of a few months. At the beginning of the year, government officials were promising that we would soon be entering a new golden era of prosperity. But instead, what we have today is chaos, inflation and shortages everywhere we look. And now even our leaders can't deny the fact that things are collapsing all around us. The mainstream media also seems alarmed about the severity of this crisis. In a recent article, the Daily Mail bluntly reported that "stores across America have empty shelves thanks to a series in supply chain problems that are prolonging inflation and could stretch into the new year, with some retailers like Costco and Walmart limiting the amount of toilet paper in some stores". The article also highlighted that there are currently more than 60 cargo ships are waiting to dock in California, each of them is carrying hundreds of thousands of containers, and they may be stuck for months in this unprecedented port traffic jam. Meanwhile, in China, millions of dollars of American goods are still sitting in warehouses awaiting shipment. The situation is causing massive delivery delays and aggravating local shortages at U.S. retail and grocery stores. At the Port of Savannah in Georgia, at least 80,000 containers are still stacked up on the docks, 50% more than normal, according to the New York Times. Some of the ships are having to wait up to ten days before getting a slot.In addition to the extensive container backlog that we are witnessing at our major ports, shipping costs continue to rise relentlessly for Pacific trade lines. The latest numbers reported by The Washington Post revealed that the median cost of shipping a standard container from China to the U.S. West Coast hit a record $20,586.

Think about this, all the containers are NOT water tight, many containers when opened after the long time on ship, everything inside is moldy and useless. We have gotten 3 containers with aircraft parts that were so badly corroded and moldy that they were recycled. Clothes and leather goods are also found moldy.
The insurance companies are taking a beating.

They should switch the port employees to a piece rate pay schedule rather than hourly.

Democrat regulations are holding the entire economy hostage.After a long cross-country flight, I made it out of LAX and into an Uber. I wasn’t in the mood to talk, but the driver was. And hearing that I was a journalist, he wanted to tell me a story. I’ve heard a lot of stories over the years, but this may have been the most important one I let go.
He hadn’t always been driving an Uber at 11:30 at night. Not all that long ago he used to have his own business with 7 trucks before he was bankrupted by California’s insane regulations.
I listened, but didn’t pay enough attention. The impact of California’s Democrat legislative supermajority on truckers was just another data point alongside what was happening to freelancers of all kinds and a lot of small businesses. Stories like this were everywhere and there was little interest in them even in conservative circles outside the tarnished golden state.
While I was riding home that night, California trucking companies were going bankrupt at a rapid rate. Few outside the industry were paying attention or understood what that might mean.
Two years ago, Governor Newsom signed the Democrat supermajority's Assembly Bill 5 into law. While AB5 was billed as a crackdown on Uber and Lyft, forcing the companies to treat l freelance contractors as employees, the gig economy companies pushed Proposition 22 so that they were the only ones exempt from the law. (A Democrat judge has since illegally blocked the approved ballot measure while falsely claiming that it was unconstitutional.)
AB5 however was less about Uber than it was about outlawing freelance employees in order to force them into unions. The union power grab inconvenienced Uber and Lyft, but crushed freelance workers in a variety of fields including journalism. One of the fields was trucking.

True, but they are already generally paid by the load/mile, so they are plenty motivated to hurry.
It's just a plain shortage of them, but that one's easy. Just eliminate the BS rules causing the artificial shortage.
Let anyone with a CDL pick up at those ports using any truck that's legal over the road and that problem will be fixed very quickly.

Agreed. Or hire the guy with right credentials, have him drive a few miles away from the port, and hand the truck over to another driver, and go back and get another truck out of the port-repeat.
