PPU 155 OTM. Opinions? Experiences?

Once I get some kind of optic on it, even if it is just possibly an ACOG, I will want to sample a bunch of different ammo through my new Galil Ace 308. Since it has a 1:12 barrel I'm wondering if it wont like the lighter, stubbier bullets? Anyway I saw these and was wondering if anyone here had used them before:

That is a decent price for surplus ball ammo.

Any opinions on 155gr OTM stuff in general?
Primary goal is to find some decent paper punching ammo that doens't cost an arm and a leg. Range would only be out to 200 yards.

For "practical" ammo I'm looking at the various Gold Dot 308s.

I reload with pulled Gold Dots for my 6.8 SPC. Excellent hunting bullet and flies as good as my match grade bullets.

Thats been my impression of the 223 Gold Dots as well. I also like that the lead tip dors not protrude beyond the jacket, I imagine this helps with feeding reliability. I already have quite a stash of 64gr GDs.

Can't help you, I don't shoot 308. If I did I would handload/reload with match quality bullets from Sierra, Hornady, Berger, Lapua. Quality bullets is the single most important factor in ammo performance. You can also find factory ammo loaded with those bullets.

@Podmonkey I would guess you want to use the Galil as a gong gun rather than a long range paper punch, so for 200 yards I would think any decent military ball would do the trick. I was able to shoot .75 at 100 with XM80 from my Browning A-Bolt, which has a 22" barrel at 1:10. You would likely get better with more expensive stuff, but if the goal is to train with it as a gong/shtf medium range gun, then run what you can find and stash cheap.

Shot this 5 round group at 100 yards using federal gold medal. I did call the one pulled shot. It was shot out of a bolt action. I use this ammo as my bench mark for other ammo. The 168 version shot well to.

It is indeed more of a gong gun, but sadly there is a distinct lack of such at my range. And prior experience and everything I read still confirms it, that most M80 ball is 3-4 moa ammo and the Galil can do better than that. I'd like to see how much better. I did buy a can of this:

I got it for my upcoming carbine class. If I like it I may buy a 900 rnd crate.

I wanna try that 155gr PPU though, its reasonable enough in price to shoot in moderately high quantites.

P.S. I actually avoid LC stuff now. Its always outperformed by European suplus which is also less expensive. Federal/LC's "XM" factory seconds offerings just aren't that great.

Good ol' M80 ball seems pretty effective!
