The bill from Sen. Kevin Parker, D-Brooklyn, would allow the investigating officer — a local police authority — to go through three years of social-media posts and one year of search-engine history before determining whether an applicant should be approved for a handgun permit.

It would also apply to assault weapons grandfathered in under the SAFE Act.

Now one cannot buy an assault weapon that has been grandfathered in ... In NY State ... One cannot even leave it in your will to a child if he resides in NY State ... Correct ? ... Then why is this written into the bill .... When one has re reregister the AR 15 ... Everything would get checked ? .. IF this is the case ... It will apply to reregistering your pistol permit also.... ....Me thinks yes

I'd say it's up to them to prove that you do.
Realistically, they'll have you answer the questions either in writing or in front of a judge and certify that the answers are true per some section of penal law regarding false statements.

Sure. And realistically they'll apply the same standards of proof to you they afforded Brett Kavanaugh, only it will be a summary judgement on their part. Oh, and if deemed "guilty" of the media crimes, they take away everything because children or something...

There are contradictory stories on who will be doing what, and where.

1) So is it going to be the NYSP or a local Sheriff who will lead the ethernet inquisition?

2) Any insights on their capabilities to confirm more than where we lead them?

3) Since I only use other's facebook, I have a sacrificial twitter account with no tweets / follows, or followers, I rarely use google (I like ducks), ... So if I inly log in here from some Joe Shmoe's account, using a weakly passworded wireless router from some local schmuck, ... or (like now) if I come in here showing a different ISP that is no where near my area from a white IPv4 address several states away, and keep changing it up, can I express my disgust for FUAC without consequence?

I suspect that this means this applies to your renewal also. and if one loses their handgun permit you also lose all your guns per the safe act. .. Watch and see the interpretation as it plays out. The goal is to disarm the public... We are just looking at the small sneaky ways of doing so.....I may be wrong folks .... Hope so...

Issues with the appropriateness or legality of this additional infringement go on and on. Do these searches have to meet rules of evidence? I did a double take after hearing some questions raised by a holiday inn attorney such as the consequences from these warrantless searches could be also be overturned since warrantless searches may only be performed by consent and consent must be freely and voluntarily given, without being coerced. Likewise, in cases where access the internet is from an out of state ISP using an out of state IP address, a NY law enforcement search may be exceeding interstate authority. This stinks on an unlimited number of ways.

Valid point. Wouldn't be the first time the cops have planted evidence. Also, what if you get hacked by a third party? Is the burden on you to prove that that activity wasn't you?

Lost my computer in a tragic boating accident.

At work I know an avid collector who does not have a cell phone, period. Several others I know are old school flip phone people. The gubbetmint is making some pretty big assumptions.

Since I work outside most of the time, I wanted to replace it with a stupid smart phone. Mostly so I could check on the weather. They can watch me all they want. I just don't give a fuck any more.
