It started at about the same time communism collapsed in the Soviet Union. Prior to that Soviet role in defeating Nazi Germany was simply minimized and we took all the credit. I had numerous discussions about this since mid 1970's. Interestingly people from generation that actually remembered WWII or fought in it were taking a different view. I guess they remembered the newsreels.

I don't view world history through a narrow ideological prism. The world doesn't revolve around our internal comical purse fight between R's and D's.
The fact of the matter European democracies folded and waited for totalitarian Stalinist Russia to break Hitler's back. This is also a part of history.
Soviets won the war because Stalin wasn't a cup cake and our government knew the difference between Stalin and Hitler.

Long term socialism doesn't work. This isn't a D vs R thing, it's just a law of nature. The government control will inexorably increase in a socialist state until it becomes totalitarian.
Every flaw in society will generate a demand for government to "fix" it, with an attendant loss of freedom. Eventually enough freedom is gone that you have become totalitarian.
Totalitarianism does work, in that it's stable and a society can survive under it, we just don't want to live there.
That leaves capitalism. Which can't really exist in a pure state, there are always some minor elements of socialism that inevitably grow. You are seeing 200+ years of that here.
The only thing you can do is accept that totalitarianism is where you're headed, or fight tooth and nail against every increment of socialism.

IDK maybe it’s my age but I was never taught the Soviets helped start the war with Hitler? Yea Stalin may have allowed Hitler the balk is as a truce to stay out of a war he didn’t want to be in. And a good thing Hitler invaded Russia It was the beginning of the end. I’m sur the Allies would have eventually one without the Soviets pushing from the east but at what cost?
Millions of taxpayer dollars were spent feeding this propaganda into Eastern Europe. Congress still approves such spending and revisionist history is paid for by the American taxpayers.

Netflix has a series that covers allot of this WWII politics so its not really new info.
I haven't seen it, so I can't comment on it. Lots of new documents were unveiled by Putin. Communications between Polish and German diplomats that expose the colaboration of two countries in destruction of Czechoslovakia and their secret alliance against Soviet Union that predates Molotov-Ribbentrop pact.

Polish prime minister Morawiecki made a public statement harshly criticizing Putin, but never challenged the validity of a single document or offered any evidence to counter Putin's accusation.
Some of the Western historians, while not coming to Putin's defense criticized Polish government for pushing the issue.
Well, the Ginny is out of the bottle and in response to Polish prime minister's tirade, Putin said that unveiling just scratched the surface and there are plenty more documents yet to see.
Lets not forget that Red Army stormed Reichs-Chancellery and the whole Berlin and took possession of all of the documents and archives as well as archives throughout Eastern Europe.

Polish president Duda said he will not attend Holocaust commemorating ceremonies in Israel, because Israel will not allow him to speak. This came as a result of Poland refusing to own up to its role in the Holocaust.
The evidence and charges introduced by Putin on Poland's role in helping Hitler to unleash his conquest of Europe will not be swept under the rug or go away. The truth will prevail.
