Putnam Amendment Times

Anybody else in Putnam have amendments pending right now? I've got 2 pending both from the beginning of this month.

I'm guessing its gonna be at least 3-4 weeks, but anyone else waiting longer than that want to burst my bubble lol?

I'll be curious to hear your experience. Planning on doing some in the next month or two and the FFL I spoke with said "they're doing them but they're taking forever" but I didnt press him on specifics.

The last time I did any, about 2 years ago, they were running like 10 days total. Fwiw.

I've done a few amendments this year before and during, but everything seems like its kinda returning to normal. However, my FFL said something similar to me when I I there last.

My experience this year is as follows:
  1. I put 2 in before the "pandemic " ~January-February time and the turnaround time was like 10-14 days.
  2. I put another one in March literally right before everything went down and I didnt get that back until mid June, but they weren't even working so whatever I guess.
  3. I actually put one in like beginning of June before the courts were back open, sent it in by mail and it only took like 3 weeks for them to get back to me.

If you are curious about how they are doing it now I'll share as well. You have to send it your signed and filled out amendment form, with a copy of your permit, and a copy of the bill of sale. Then when its complete they send you your new permit by mail as well as the coupon. It also has a letter saying you need to return your old permit along with a $3 check payable to Putnam county Clerk.

That's interesting, thanks. I didnt realize they were doing them by mail. You just mailed that to the Clerk's office in Carmel with an "attn: Pistol Permits" on it, or is there a specific address to use? Last I had checked they were doing them via a drop box at the office (or so I thought).

Thanks this is potentially really good news even if they are on delays due to all the BS.

I believe I just addressed it

I actually initially emailed them, countyclerk@putnamcountyny.gov, and they said they are doing it both ways, drop box and by mail, so I'd assume the drop box requires the same information.

Update:

The 2 amendments I mailed in on June 30th and July 2nd both were approved and I received my new permit/ 2 purchase coupons by mail. Letter head was dated July 15th so Id say, at least as of right now, its back to a 2 week maybe a little more turnaround time.

I've also joined the 2 card club officially. Can't wait to fill this one up lol

I can touch base with the office but wondering if anyone knows offhand if I can / should mail in my and the wife's amendments and co-registration in one envelope? Would seem to make sense to me at least. Got my invoice for new to us P238 the other day and want to get the ball rolling...

I can't see why not. I think they all go into a pile when they get there. They also seem to try and keep people's paperwork together. Wouldn't hurt to email them though, they are pretty responsive.

When I got those last 2 amendments they were on separate forms, but when I received my paperwork back they combined it.

Mine are always dated at least a week to ten day before I get them. They take their time sending them back. It's funny because it's walking distance between the two buildings.

Dropped the paperwork off on Jun 22. Still anxiously waiting on 8/2. I thought maybe I'd get lucky nd receive the coupon sooner than the "about two weeks" I was told it would take.

Admittedly it's been a while since my last amendment. And the process has changed somewhat. Of course the Put. Co. website is of no help.

I dropped mine off 0n the 29th. I doubt I will see anything until the 18th or 19th of this month. The website really needs to be updated. The last one I dropped off they called me to tell me I forgot to enclose the $3 check. I said I usually pay when I send in my card and she said oh no we changed that. I asked where that info was posted and she had no answer.

Exactly. The only information I could find was the contact info and amendment form. Nothing more. In fact, I got more information from the Deputy at the entrance than I did at the LGS. Very annoying.

WOW. I got my paperwork back already. I posted above that I dropped it of the 29th but I had the wrong date it was actually the 22nd. But still not bad only two weeks.

Tomorrow will be three weeks to the day, and I'm growing impatient. Called the clerk's office this morning (after checking an empty mailbox) and was told it was with the court right now and should be back any time now. Guess I won't see coupon until sometime next week. :mad:

WOW Did you send the 3 dollar check in with it? I cant believe they are taking that much longer than mine. Did you put it in the drop box or mailed it?

I actually used cash, not a check, as instructed by the Deputy sitting at the entrance to the county building. I also used the drop box.

I did call the Clerk's office last Thursday to get an update on the status, and was told it was at the court and should be issued any time now.

Not in Putnam but I always pay by check. That way I have a record of when the payment went through and the process started.

More payback by the State for the SCOTUS ruling?

And furthermore, I really don't understand the scrutiny or review process by the Judicial, simy for the purchase of a firearm, especially when a person already owns them!

Makes absolutely ZERO sense at all, other than arbitrarily placing encumbrances to those wanting to exercise their 2A Rights!

So I just sent in an amendment to have my restrictions removed and for a long gun permit. Supposedly that's all I have to do. The instructions said they may or may not ask for a live fire cert and pic's of a safe. Guess we will see what happens.

Just an update. HAVENT HEARD SHIT. This is a joke! If I wanted to buy a long gun (and I do) I cant because they haven't sent back a permit with the amendment to do so. WTF
