If my gun is near my wallet, the second the lights behind me are turned on, I pull out my wallet while driving.

A minute or minutes later after I have pulled over and the officer has already run my plate, when he arrives at my window, the wallet is already on my lap.

No sudden movements can be mistaken at that point with the wallet clearly visible on my lap and my hands on the steering wheel.

I then interact with the officer and either accept a ticket or a warning.

No further variables are introduced into the equation that may or may not go in my favor.

Interesting that everyone seems to wait to be asked for ID. I know the first thing the officer asks for will be license and registration. So I have my license, registration, and pistol permit out and ready long before the officer is at my window. Hell, usually before he's even pulled me over.

I used to be a lead footed speed demon till I got my CDL. Now I drive like a granny.
I got pulled over in Texas once (many, many times actually) on the way home from an all day range session with half my arsenal in tow. In Texas you have a "Duty to Inform" so I do like Mr. Ayoob suggests and I hand over my CC permit along with my drivers license, and my military ID too, can't forget that! I tell him where its at and everything is fine, dosen't even want to see it.

Thankfully this county has no duty to inform. Last thing a cop needs to know is I have a gun on me.

I'm going home to my family at night.

Each and everyday we gauge people that we interact with. A traffic stop is no different. The copper is gauging the driver and the driver should be gauging the officer.

I am not saying to disclose your CCW status just to make the cops day easier; there may be times that informing the officer would be needed and others that it may not.

Every stop is different. One of the only good things about NY is we do NOT have a duty to inform LE of CCW Status. Many States do in fact have that requirement.

Even if your county did, it isn't law. What if you forget you are carrying? Many times I do. What if it's in the trunk along with your rifle going to the range? Do you inform about the pistol and not the rifle?

Pure hogwash!

I don't inform anybody about anything. There is no upside.

I went to North Carolina a couple of weeks ago, they have a Duty to Inform Law. (I know, we are talking about here in NY). Anyway, I did some reading prior to going, if a Gun owner does not inform down there, they can get up to a $500 fine. Talk about crazy.

Chances are if ordered out of the vehicle, the fine would be the least of your concerns.

And if ordered out of the vehicle and you then inform, you informed!

$500!? That's insane. I'll rant about it from the holes pouring that cool red liquid from my body, courtesy of yet another trigger happy cop that might not only think he is supposed to be the only one in town with a gun, but probably opposes you having one.
