Range Report: CCI Standard Velocity-shoots great

I’ve been spending the last few weeks getting the new Henry dialed in. Today, I had an opportunity to show some love to and old faithful.

I recently swapped the existing scope rings on my Ruger 10/22 for Vortex low-rise rings. I needed to re-zero the scope before taking it into the field.

I zeroed with CCI segmented subsonic at 25 yards. Then, I moved the target back to 50 yards and shot groups with CCI standard velocity. The consistency from CCI SV has been a little shaky over the last few years. But, this batch was very good. I recently purchased 1,000 rounds to refill my supply.

The results averaged a hair over 1 MOA at 50 yards. This is the best result I’ve had with CCI SV with any rifle.

I shot at Davis in Goshen, a 100 yard indoor range, from the bench on a Caldwell shooting rest with rear bag.

I got a case of CCI-SV a few months back, I haven't tried it yet hope it's a good batch! I know what you mean about some of it being a little shaky. I shoot a match last year with a new brick at 50 yards with my Ruger 77/22 with a Shilen barrel, nothing worse the a 9 but way to many of them! this rifle shoots CCI-SV as good or better the a lot of high-end target ammo I've tried!

Now that is good shooting for a 10-22. I use the Winchester super X in mine. Quick question. When you get a flyer is it usually your last shot of the group?

My flyers are usually random.

OK, Have a buddy that can shoot one hole'ers all day long with a 223 and 308 but he gets wound up in competition and always blow the last shot.

In my experience, these sort of flyers are all luck of the draw. My guess is, he only notices flyers when they’re the last shot in a competition.

I’ve thought for a while that how we measure groups is sensitive to outliers. Using a chronograph is probably a better way to reckon ammo consistency. But, one hole groups are a thing of beauty.
