Range Report: VP9, vs P10c, vs TP9SF Elite

Took all three to the range tonight and there were definitely some ups and downs. Loaded up two mags from each gun and fired rounds at 24' just to get a feel. Now the VP9 is my go to, the first gun I bought and the one I use for PPC matches so I'm pretty familiar with it. It was my first time shooting the other two. Shot the VP9 first to get a feel so I can compare the other two. Next was the CZ P10c. Fired one round, FTE. Cleared it, fired another, same thing. One more, FTE. Fuck. Move on to Canik TP9SF. First round down range, FTL. Cleared, second round, FTE. Third, one or the other I forget. Now I'm thinking what the fuck? I've NEVER had a new gun fail so readily, now I've got two in one day?! I was using 124 grain PMC Bronze ammo, so I decided to swap the rest of the magazines with Remington UMC, and there were no problems after that. That was a relief, but it was interesting that the VP9 had no problems cycling it.

As for the guns themselves, I'm a bit disheartened. I've put about 500 or so rounds through the VP9 and it seems that I was able to shoot both, the CZ and the Canik more accurately. The CZ especially just felt like it pointed so naturally, was planted firmly in my hands and the sights are excellent. The trigger is every bit as good as they say it is. For me the thing was dead nuts accurate.
The Canik was great too. Not as much grip as the CZ, but more than the VP9. The grip on the VP9 is by far the most comfortable of the the three, but it could be a tad grippier. The trigger on the Canik is almost indiscernable from the CZ. At 24' I shot all of them equally well, but at 50' I was much more accurate with the CZ and the Canik.

Here's one of the targets at 50'. Center was the VP9. Bottom right was the CZ. A couple fliers from one or the other. I'm going to have to spend more time with all of these to see what's causing the disparity.

I bought the CZ last year and I agree. Great ergonomics and trigger. Unlike your experience I've never had a malfunction in over 2000 rounds. I've never shot PMC through it but it eats everything else.

OP just as a heads up Cajun Gun Works is about to drop a bunch of good shit for the 10c. Ie steel striker (oem is known for breaking) and a new flat face trigger as well

I bought the vp9 as my first gun too. My go to as well. I have 5 hand guns, and by far the VP9 is the most reliable, non problematic handgun that I own. I’ve stovepiping with my Colt 9mm 1911, has to send my Kimber Micro 9 back when I got t because of issues it had. The Ruger SR22 is another great gun that I have rarely has issues with l, but it has happened. My RIA 45 has been pretty good as well, but I don’t shoot it much.

I’m interested to get my hands on a VP9SK.
My biggest issue with the VP9 is it sometimes bothers my trigger finger, almost like it’s being pinched between the trigger and the bottom of the trigger guard.

I contemplated buying a stainless steel guide rod for the VP9, supposedly helping with some of the recoil. I thought maybe it would effect the weight of the gun causing it less vertical travel when I’m shooting.

I really like the gun. The feel, the look and until now, how I shot it, lol. I get the same thing to an extent on all almost all my guns. Don't know why, but my trigger finger is always at an angle.

Looking at that target though, I'm wondering what the hell I was doing. My PPC targets under time pressure and less than ideal stances are grouped better than that. I did use all the PMC that wouldn't cycle in the other two in the VP9. Could it be the ammo? I'm no John Wick, but Jesus, the difference between the VP9 and the P10 groups at 50' are enormous.

So a few months back I did get to shoot a VP9 for the first time and man that trigger was as good as my Agency Arms (with out the - connector) it was a buddy of mines only thing I did not like about the VP9 was the striker indicator in the rear, the red on it seemed to keep catching my eye, oh and the cost of mags (one reason I have put the P07 back in the safe and back with my g17) but my buddy did get a sweet deal HK was offering 4 free mags on top of the 3 that came with the gun.

On other big plus for me on the HK other than the better feel due to the side panels would be the lever mag release ( I wish It was a bit larger like the PPQ used to have) always been a big fan of that style

Yeah the mags are stupid expensive. I wish I had gotten that 4 mag deal, but that was given I think in the summer of last year. I bought my vp9 in Late November of 2016.

Not this would have been middle/end of 2017 summer.

And I know the pain for expensive mags As well, my cz mags were about $50 until they recently dropped the 10c which the p07 can use so they went down in price like $5-10

The paddle release was one of the reasons I chose the VP9. I don't have to alter my grip at all to manipulate the mag release and I can do it with my thumb or my trigger finger. To be honest, I never notice the striker indicator. What a useless bit of engineering that is. The Canik has one as well.

I only notice it when I’m clearing the firearm. When I’m shooting, I don’t see it. I think the little side indicator for a loaded round is more useless. Doesn’t really show a difference for a round in the chamber or not.

To me, the striker indicator sits too far into the firearm to really notice the red dot. It should sit more flush with the rear of the gun.

This was the only good thing about having to wait so long for my pistol permit. I actually bought it well before the rebate began, but picked it up from the FFL the last week of the promotion. I submitted it, and they accepted it even though I didn't actually buy it during the promotion time.

Took the VP9 and the P10 to the range today, and once again I was able to get much tighter groups with the P10. I think the issue is with the sights. With the VP9's night sights, there's a lot of space on each side of the front post when it's aligned with the rear sight. With the P10, the front sight fills the gap in the rear sight slit. I may look into replacing the factory night sights with a different setup.

I love my P10. It's my first poly pistol. I love it so much I have a CZ75B in .40 waiting for me at Thruway.

That's what I am thinking with my VP9 also. That's why I am trying this out, going to the range this weekend to see how it shoots. I also have some issues with the grip, especially the front strap, it's a bit slippery, adding grip tape to it and see if that improves.

Let us know how it goes, with the sight and the grip tape. I agree with you about the grip being a bit slick. The feel of the grip in the hand is better than any other pistol I've felt, but the texturing could stand to be a bit more aggressive. If it had the texturing of my Taurus Millennium G2 (I know, I know, it's a turd, blah, blah, blah), but if you've handled one, you'll know what I mean about the texturing. Very grippy, without being painful.

I WILL, have a CZ75 P01 or a shadow 2 someday. Never handled either, but man are those beautiful guns. You have to post pics when you get it and report... those are the rules.

The feel of the grip in the hand is better than any other pistol I've felt, but the texturing could stand to be a bit more aggressive. If it had the texturing of my Taurus Millennium G2 (I know, I know, it's a turd, blah, blah, blah), but if you've handled one, you'll know what I mean about the texturing. Very grippy, without being painful.

Just came back from the range and zero the red dot at 50 feet. Also testing the new grip tape I put on the pistol. I have never shot a group this tight at 50 feet. Couple thing that is very noticeable right off the bat, I can get on target much quicker with the red dot, but most important of all, with the grip tape on the front strap, the gun no longer feel slippery for me and I can definitely feel a much better control on the recoil.

No, I cut and shaped the grip tape from the GT-5000.
