I carry one in the chamber all the time. I would never even consider carrying a gun without a bulletin the chamber ready to go. I did not know people actually did otherwise.

I have little kids running around, and I considered condition 3 as a way of reducing risk. But I have since seen the light.

I used to worry about accidental discharge. But the pros of carrying locked and loaded far outweigh any cons.
When mine were younger I would remedy that by carrying 24/7. Now when I'm home if I lay it around the house out of holster I throw the safety on.

I would not reduce the risk I would eliminate the risk. I would make sure the kids could not get their hands on the gun. Mistakes happen. A round might be in the chamber or your kids might amaze you and be able to rack the slide. Keep your gun on you or in a safe. If my guns not on my hip they are in a safe.

Always chambered. It's easy. Keep your finger off the trigger unless you want it to go bang.

Train your kids early that a gun is ALWAYS loaded and to STOP DONT TOUCH and GET AN ADULT if they happen to come across an unattended gun. Oh, and always carry your SD gun with one in the pipe. Always.

Very compelling video if you carry without a round in the chamber...of course each to his/her own. My own happens to be that if I am carrying...there is one in the tube ready to go.

I carried mine around my house unloaded and practiced drawing. I did this to get comfortable carrying one in the chamber and to train myself to keep the finger off the trigger until target is acquired. I also wanted to make sure it was secure in the holster I bought.
Nothing wrong with this.

Me too. My first carry piece was a 1911. I carried it unloaded around the house too with the safety on and the hammer back at home just to see if the safety would disengage.
It never did so I became comfortable carrying loaded in one day.

I generally don't tell people how they should defend themselves. I know several people who argue they wouldn't want to draw their firearm if they didn't have time to rack it. They feel the assailant would be too close.

Carried for about two weeks with the chamber empty. Finally dawned on me that it didn't make sense. My daughter knows what to do when she sees a gun out. Knows not to touch it and to tell someone. Since she knows, I carry hot and ready all the time. Sometimes if I'm in the house I'll put the safety on, but I'm starting to do that less and less now. Videos like this pretty much confirm why my gut feeling is right.

I didn't feel comfortable at first. I too walked around the house for weeks with it loaded to see if it would go pop. I bumped it with my elbow, banged it on corners and nothing. Today, I won't even hit the toilet without one in the chamber, and my guns loaded too.

And a much older way of doing things. Yet it somehow worked without people shooting themselves constantly. It's all about trigger control. In the Indy 500 would you want your car running and ready to go at the starting line or would you want to have to put the keys in the car, start it and then go?
