The game itself was definitely a sidelight to the excess activism, chronicled by Deadspin writers Jesse Spector and Rich O'Malley.

All U.S. starters other than Julie Ertz and Kelley O’Hara -- nine of 11 in all -- took a knee during the playing of the Star Spangled Banner. Every member of the team wore a Black Lives Matter warm-up jacket rather than display "USA." And that wasn't enough of an international embarrassment.

Team "BLM" also released a video statement explaining how personal their mission is:


“Today, we wear Black Lives Matter to affirm human decency. We protest against racial injustice and police brutality against Black people. We protest against the racist infrastructures that do not provide equal opportunity for Black and brown people to fulfill their dreams, including playing on this team.”

I don't normally ascribe things I talk about to socialists, but Herbert Marcuse (an intellectual student of Marx) did get something awfully right in the 60s in "One Dimensional Man." Namely, capitalism will boil everything down to a commodity at some point. Anything you could want is a commodity.

One aspect he foresaw, which I absolutely think has manifested, is the idea that capitalism can even sell you counter culture. You can "buy into" enough prideful shirts, join enough prideful Facebook groups, "opt-in" to enough prideful things, that you too can be prideful. All of this while someone cashes in.

This posturing by the team is merely a way for cashing in -- a way for a company or organization to pre-emptively save face, so their customers keep buying, and viewers keep watching. It's all part of the game. Only those who are intellectually blind can't see it.

Why hasn't Team USA woke up to get fully on board with the new enlightened program and field an entire "women's" soccer team roster with penis endowed trans-women and cut these sorry ass bitching lesbians off the team? That would be entertaining poetic social justice.

Yep. Very few and far between companies, including the whole bulk of those pushing whatever political trend of the time interests them, make it because the people running the company really give a shit about it. It's all for the almighty dollar. It's a very cynical view, but unfortunately very accurate. Find a company that is "going green" or whatever it is, and generally they've spent let's say X on actually going green, X * 3 on marketing telling everyone they are going green and projecting X*5 in additional profits from the marketing campaign.

TOKYO—People were stunned after the U.S. women's soccer team lost to Sweden in the Olympics this week by a score of 3-0—until the team revealed they are boycotting scoring any goals until racism is defeated.




















"Yeah, we didn't score any goals against Sweden last night, but that was totally on purpose," said star player and beloved activist Megan Rapinoe. "This isn't the time to score goals—when America is still racist. We totally could have beaten Sweden but we decided as a team that no goals will be scored until complete equality has been achieved in America. Also, we demand a hefty raise."
Onlookers were stunned during the second half of the game when Rapinoe dribbled the ball all the way to Sweden's unprotected goal and whispered "This is for you, people of color," before kicking the ball straight into the air and running headfirst into the goalpost.
"This may be one of the most powerful performances in the history of sports," said Teen Vogue's sportswriter who has never watched sports.
The U.S. Women's team is demanding to remain in the Olympic tournament and promises to continue its streak of zero goals. Inspiring!

This is the most obvious thing ever. Companies with a fiduciary responsibility to shareholders are going to market (and supporting BLM or whatever is marketing) based on expected net profit gains. They would be negligent in their duty to shareholders if they could make more profit and knowingly chose not to.

I can not think of one thing I care about less.
I guess maybe I care less about the Olympics than womens soccer.

The professional, amateur, and collegiate sports associations should just eliminate the women's and men's divisions of ALL sports. Make it one combined sport, the way things stand now. Problem solved!

They will not score a goal, that should last what, 2-3 games then your 15 minutes are over for ever.
