Don't bother with a laser all you need is a good light. Check out Inforce Weapon Lights.
Only a combo? Otherwise I use an Elzetta Alpha in a Daniel Defense offset mount. Best weapon light on the market. IMO lasers on an AR are more of an NVG use thing. Lacking that I would stick to just the light.
Good advice, I was thinking of just picking up a flashlight mount and another Fenix PD35 Tac

I question the need for such high lumens on a weapon light. In an enclosed area you just might be blinding yourself, especially if you've just woken up and its all dark. 300 or so lumens in a broad flood beam lights up a whole room without being overwhelming. Such lights are also much more compact and lightweight.

I have to agree with Podmonkey. In the dark, you want enough to light up just what you are pointing at rather than the whole room or a whole alley.
Too bright and your red dot could also be washed out or give away your position.

Actually I think a broad flood pattern is what is best for HD. The following is a good illustration why.
Remember, you are not using your weapon light for searching or scanning, just a quick momentary activation to make sure you are about to shoot a bad guy and not your kid or the dog. You need a handheld light for general scanning. You don't wanna have a "who goes there" situation using your weapon light. You might find its your neighbor taking out the trash. And now you are pointing a firearm at him, not good.

Huh? Blinding yourself? Give away your position? Red dot washed out? I agree with compact being good, yes. But less lumens? Are you telling me if a light came out that was small as a stack of 5 dimes and lit up an entire room the equivalent of full sunlight that you'd not want it? Of course you would want it!
....Unless you are using NVG and an IR illuminator with laser. That is another story.

Not me. Bigger isn't always better. Too many fall victim to bigger numbers.
I have my red dot set to a low setting because it's always on. It never gets turned off. In a totally dark room, it gets washed out and harder to see with an extremely bright torch. I have to jack up the red dot to the brighter settings to see it and even then, all that light is distracting.
As far as giving away your position goes, imagine yourself in an urban setting in the alleys. You are on the main street in total darkness and down one alley your enemy shines a low powered tight beam at a door lock and in another alley your enemy has the latest tacticool 500 lumens flood light and is also pointing it a door lock.
Who is most likely to give away their position to a naked eye in total darkness at a distance?
Not only that, in total darkness it's easier for your eyes to recover from a weaker light than from a stronger light.
You only need enough to see. Obviously you don't want too weak of a light.
Thanks for all the advice, great thread so far. I personally think the more lumens the better, the bright light will disorient whoever is on the receiving side of it. I have a 1,000 lumen Fenix PD35 tac that I keep next to me bed, I have gotten up at night and turned it on instantly without it affecting me at all (one time my garage magically opened up at 2 AM so I ran down there with my Glock 17 and flashlight to later find out my opener was malfunctioning). I like the fact that the stronger lights will project further and light up more, plus the pressure switch is nice because i turn it on and off very quickly.

At 1000 lumens any attacker will physically feel pain in their eyes. An attacker on drugs may not notice the pain, but a blinding light out of total darkness will surely fuck up their world.
Also, it's for a HD AR. I want my whole world lit up before i Pull the trigger. The beam tests on the Streamlight I gave you, that I've seen dont carry as powerfully past 30-40yd (as a surefire 300) but I don't know many people making 30-40yd shots in their homes. But it sure does light up the fucking world its beam touches.
Also if you don't know where mirrors are that could blind you in your own home or don't test your light out before hand, you're gonna end up on the 5am news for shooting your neighbor or getting killed by your own gun. Those people are just the losers in Darwin's natural selection game
