Red Dot for Pistol

I wasn't sure which forum to ask this.

I just purchased a Ruger Mark IV Hunter and would like to put a red dot on it. Seeing as it's a .22 LR, I don't need to break the bank for the optics. I'm considering a Bushnell Trophy TRS-25. However I am open to suggestions.

Which red dot would you go with and why?

Me personally, I would go with a Primary Arms Micro Dot at a price of ten dollars more.

It is a well built optic. If you google "Primary Arms Micro Dot Torture Tests" you will see the ruggedness of this optic. Even though you will be only using the for a .22 LR, it won't lose zero. Hell, in one of the tests, it was dragged on an AK by a pickup truck on the ground over a rocky trail cracking the lens and it still held zero.

I have the Bushnell Trophy on my Browning Buckmark, I would like to change the 30mm rings that came with it as they are the type that (for lack of a better word) pinch together on top of the scope. The Contour model Buckmark has a rail that is the full length of the pistol and has to be removed to disassembly the pistol for cleaning! So I have to re-sight in the scope each time.

Accessories don't count. The key word is "Manufacturerd". The law says a Semi Auto pistol with a manufacturerd weight of over 50 ounces. A scope is not part of the pistol. You can buy those separately.

This is what I believed as well for some time. So, looks like I can't put whatever legal accessories I want on a semi pistol, as long as it is manufactured under 50oz without them.

i had that exact set up, it works fine!
but not for me, i cant see a dot, i see a changing squiggle.
eyes glasses mixture doesn't work

After a little research, I'm now leaning towards the PA micro dot. Thanks for posting. I have about a month to decide and purchase while waiting for my coupon.

I gotta say, been watching a lot of reviews on Primary Arms. Their red dots seem gtg and at a good price. The TR 25 is a very good value option, I had one for my 10/22 and liked it. Sold it for gas money though.

I use an Ultradot Matchdot II for my S&W 41. I use it for Bullseye competition. Love it.

Check out the holosuns on pa's sight also. The PA dot is actually a holosun built specifically for pa. I have one of their solar powered ones with a 2 moa dot switchable to an eotech type circle dot. Reticle is super crisp, and glass is very nice.

I have a small reflex reddot branded "Browning" and probably made in some far off land. I paid less than $30 for it and it is mounted on my Buckmark. I've been using it for 3 years now and have never had to adjust it since the initial sight-in. I was on a tight budget and needed something for Bullseye shoots so I thought I would give it a try. It's been great!

As a follow-up.

Good news and bad news.

Good: Picked up the Mark IV Hunter today. Paperwork took three weeks to the day. The Primary Arms Micro Red Dot should be here Friday.

Bad: It did not come with a rail. Apparently they are customized, comes with a cut out for the ejector port. Had to order it from ShopRuger. It's back-ordered 3-4 weeks (they think).

I was thinking of putting the TR25 on my 10/22 for Steel Challenge. the squiggle isn't good for bullseye, but should work fine for Steel!

I was going to suggest this also. I can not confirm with personal use but the primary arms get great reviews and when on sale are not very expensive. I've been thinking about getting one myself.

I have one on my Mini-14. Has never lost zero except for once. Dot went to the top. They replaced it with no problem

Finally got to the range today to sight in the Mk IV Hunter w/MicroDot. Got it dialed in at 50 feet using Remington Golden Bullets. This gun is just a pleasure to shoot, and cleaning is a snap!
