To maintain proper cheek weld the Ultimak rail is lowest profile rail available for the Mini 14. It also has room for lights, lasers, etc. The Aimpoint is the industry standard red dot for good reason.
And another thing, if you want reliability ONLY get Ruger OEM mags.

Prism or laser dot? Some with astigmatism can't use the laser? Other than that, what are you willing to pay? I say get the unit with the smallest MOA dot.

I use the Ultimack also. Very nice and clean machined part. I use a Primary Arms Micro Red Dot Primary Arms Micro Dot With Removable Base MD-RBGII
On my 9mm AR I put 1 of these Holosun Paralow 2 MOA Red Dot Sight HS403A I like this as it's instant on as soon as you move the rifle as it's my bedside
and on my AR Primary Arms Advanced Micro Dot with Push Buttons and up to 50K-Hour Battery Life MD-ADS

Nothing beats a Primary Arms Micro Dot both the regular and the advanced version if you are on a budget.

Another happy primary arms user. My model isn't made anymore so I can't link it. When I'm in the market for another budget optic I will buy from them again.
Surprised no one said vortex. I have the sparc 2 on my AR and love it, plus you can't beat The no questions lifetime warranty they offer. Saw something where someone accidentally had a accidental discharge and shot their spotting scope with their 300WM lol. They exchanged the spotting scope no questions asked. That seems like a company that stands behind their products.

Vortex is great as @Gardnaaa said. I have several of their products and I like all of them. As for red dots I've got the Strikefire II. I like it, It is bigger and it does weigh more than the SPARC but it has a wider objective and does both green and red dots. It also comes with a cantilever mount which is nice.

Besides the Aimpoint, of all the red dots listed, no other Red Dot gets a battery life of 50,000 hours like the Primary Arms Advanced Red Dot gets.

I got 7 or 8 years out of the last battery in my TRS-25. That includes leaving it on for a week at a time a few times.

anyone own a Burris fast firer3 that's the way i'm leaning for now. a few guy's i shoot with have them pistols and all seem to like them. the other one that I see a lot is the leopold delta point a bit to rich for me right now. everyone praises them.
I have a TRS-25 and a few other type red dots they all do the job quite well My favorite is the Bushnell Halo circa 1990s if you can find them they usually will cost you 50 bucks used of course, (new they were 400 bucks), they run on N size batteries and are great for the AR platform. As long as you remember to turn it off the batteries will last over a decade. I used to run the Halo on my Comped Para Ord 45 and 38 Super when I was running and gunning. Now I have one sitting on an AR in 300 BLK and the other on my AR308.

If your looking for inexpensive, the bushnell TRS-25 is hard to beat. It’s small and works great. I have one on one of my ARs.

for the price of those things they are impressive as all hell.
Yes, I have one. As a range red dot it's good. Extremely compact (which is why people use them on pistols). My one major complaint would be that it would be nice if it had better controls. It only has one button, and that button is very small and kind of hard to push and get the result you want (multi clicks go through on, 3 brightness settings, auto brightness) in any kind of hurry. You'd have a hell of a time pushing the tiny button with any kind of gloves on for sure. I wouldn't personally use it on anything I considered a defensive/combat firearm for that reason.

I bought an Ultradot for my .44 mag for hunting season. First time in snowy / rainy weather it fogged up. Needless to say hunting season is now over and I still dont have it. Not much of a recommendation from me....and it was recommended and sworn by to me from a father / son duo.
I have a FF3 on a pistol, I like it. The only thing is on a rifle I might want one with a bigger window.
