Specifically the bullets and primers.

While I'm still trying to find some 9mm dies I figure I could start looking at other components.

I see blue bullets are a pretty popular option for low cost plinking/competition loads but was also wondering if anyone has heard of or used Bayou Bullets


I dont see any 124g options from blue bullets but Bayou has that weight

I eventually want to be able to load up something similar to my carry load (124g HST and 124g Gold dots) and also load up a load for super soft shooting competition loads (that still cycle my carry gun and make minor pf).

Also does anyone have any other suggestions on bullets to look at?


Next is primers. What would a good reliable primers be, and which ones should be avoided (hard primers)

You'd be hard pressed to find a unreliable primer. I get whatever is available. Hard primers? Not in the US.

You'd be hard pressed to find a unreliable primer. I get whatever is available. Hard primers? Not in the US.

I just always see people who reload for competition and use slighter springs talk about heavier primers and what not.

So wasn't sure if say Winchester was a harder primer than cci or one was better than the other

I prefer sizing dies with carbide rings for my pistol calibers.

Yea i wish this was carbide but this is legit the only set I've been able to find, and what I gather just means I have to lub the case when resizing..

It will eventually get replaced of course

Yes it would be recommended. Use imperial sizing wax, that way you won’t risk contamination of the inside the case or powder.

Using small rifle primers in pistol cases can lead to some misfires and requires a stronger footing pin spring. But I have not found a pistol primer too hard to detonate with a pistol in good working order.

147 Blue Bullets are my preferred choice. Great price and quality. They are currently 6 to 8 weeks wait for delivery.
I just ordered a couple thousand from Xtreme bullets. They are in stock and I should have them tomorrow. That's about 10 days
In Stock Now.... I've used these before and seem to be of good quality.

I've never used Bayou bullets.
Brazos bullets. I won't order these again. poor quality compared to Blue Bullets and I found a bunch of 115gn mixed in with my 147s
Egglelston Munitions is another brand I would not recommend. Poor quality

Thanks. Its going to probably still be a bit before I get to sit down and load anything.. looking for one of the Lee 4 hole turrets to use on my press (which is now i guess my dads haha)

Yea thats why I scooped up these dies when I just saw them.

And I have a Hornady reloading book that came with my reloading press kit but that was from oh god 2012??

Forgot about them. RMR for sure! Rocky mountain reloading. 9mm 147 grain RMR Heavy Matchwinner. If your shooting paper targets these flat points make such a clean hole. Somehow that makes me feel better about how I'm shooting.

Thats good to know, granted I won't be loading self defense loads, I'll stick with gold dots and hst for those.

Just want to be able to load ammo to train with and ammo to compete with

If primer hardness is really an important consideration to get your gun to run that means your gun is just on the brink of failure and working. I know competition shooters do this.

If you want to get specific about primer hardness cci would be hardest, winchester in the middle and federal would be softest. But the difference is negligible. If primer hardness is really an important consideration to get your gun to run that means your gun is just on the brink of failure and working. I know competition shooters do this.

I've been using Bayou Bullets for a few years now. I've probably gone through 7,500-10,000 of them.

They work well for me.

Oh wow. That was the old bait and switch! First landing on the page it says $47.20-$62.05 which is still pretty high for lee dies and then when you select 9mm then it's $100. I didn't see that. Shame on them.

Yea man I keep seeing that one and it kept happening to me, thats why I just went with the set I did since I dont think ill see any better price than what I got these at any time soon

Redding is awesome .. unless you have a 1960's era press then they have to search the basement for parts lol .. ( my 12ga shot shell press )

did you even go to lee reloading website and check there ?? last i knew you could order right from there direct .. ?

askin because i few yrs ago i got the 243win and 6.5Creed 4 die set .. full sizing and neck sizing set for 50 bucks for xmas gift few yrs ago ..
cant see a 9mm die set from lee at 100 .. idk lol
