Remington 783

Hi everyone just picked up the newer inexpensive Remington 783 does anyone have any experience with this rifle. And is it capable of 500 yrd. + with decent accuracy. Thanks!

Not a bad gun. It was my first actually and I had it in 30-06. If you handload it can be pretty damn accurate. I only tried it out to 200 though.

Thanks I wanted the 700 sps tactical. But this was more in my price range. Its suppose to be much better rifle than the 770. I just picked up this bipod for it havent shot it yet. Did you use the factory scope it came with?

Yeah I did. Starting out it was fine. If you've been shooting for a while you may want to replace it. It serves it's purpose though.

Shot one in .243. With a good scope, I can hit gongs at 200 yards. Use it for deer. Nice and lighweight to carry in woods with out dinging it up. Added a larger bolt handle and it is very smooth for a low end rifle.

This thing seems really good for the price. Adjustable Trigger, free float barrel , barrel nut for swapping barrels and head space, the only thing that seems kinda cheap is the stock. The bolt on mine seems super smooth not too much resistances.

I actually sold mine, mainly cause the aftermarket for drop-in parts was kinda weak. Action is pretty solid but it's still basically an economized 700.

I was looking into aftermarket stuff. These came out in 2013 and there is not much for them. If they made better heavier barrels and different stocks/bolts I'm sure this could be up there with the 700

It was never designed to be unfortunately. I know mdt makes a chassis for it, and I'm sure you could get a custom barrel fitted, but I'm with sure it would be worth it with the lighter action.

I leave it as is probably get a good scope and save for a decked out 700 in the future. I almost bought one in 300 Ultra mag. About 11 years ago

Basically what I did but I went with a Savage 10.

I got a box of Remington 180gr. But I will probably pickup something cheaper and in the 150 or 165 gr. For target. What do you recommend?

I use federal gold metal match 175gr as my benchmark ammo. I don’t use them for big game hunting.

O yea, me and my Father lost our hunting spot when my grandma decided to sell her farm and property. But I'm in the process of finding somewhere else to hunt. We are thinking of renting a cabin at Allegany this year.

I use these for hunting but I haven’t taken any game yet with them. They were the most accurate hunting ammo I tried out of my tikka t3x ctr 308.

I have mostly hunted shotgun because of the laws in the area. Once have hunted rifle with my Winchester lever action 30/30 but was unsuccessful in taking any game.

I do lol but it’s a hunting rifle so I expect some scratches.

Oswego county here. It’s all rifle here now. Before that, you had to be easy of 81 to use rifle i think

Yea I have to take a drive to hunt rifle. But it's better than shotgun. Shotgun you have to be lucky and have one walk up on you pretty much.

My buddy’s dad used to use those Hornady shotgun slugs. U can shoot them accurately at distance.
