Its not a bad piece of legislation, and has a number of R co-sponsors.

The only question is whether the Rs are thinking they might have a chance at retaking the House, keeping the Senate, and getting this on President Trump's desk to be signed.

The answer to that question, of course, like most promises from the Rs, is.... maybe later. Please donate.

Lyin Paul Ryan proved that the Rs have no intention of repealing jack, because when they do promise to do something for months and years and decades, they cross their fingers behind their back.

I'm glad this bill is being proposed. It's way beyond the time for progun bills like this to start being proposed and taken seriously. Hopefully more like it will become more and more common until they gain enough traction to pass. This is what the anti's do. We have to get rid of the RINOs first. The silver lining being is that Trump's presidency was a successful coup against the old guard and newer more libertarian minded Republicans are taking over those seats. I see a possibility of regaining some of our rights but not as soon or as quickly as any of us would like. We have to be tenacious and we need to be diligent on funding a lengthy legal campaign.

This is exactly what I was thinking reading the bill. Dems aren't the only ones that pander. Then I looked more into Roger Marshall. Everything looks good on paper but maybe a little too good. Again I think it's just pandering. Politicians on any side at just about any level simply can't be trusted.

I get the frustration and cynicism when it comes to these types of bills however, pandering or not, it's a good thing that bills like this get proposed if only because for every one of these pro gun bills, there are ten or more anti gun bills being proposed. Also the more a proposal gets put into the public eye, the more of a chance it has at gaining support.
People forget that bills like this, result in people going on record as being for something. Even if pandering, that can be used against it's author by the opposing side or people on the fence. So it's a bit of a risk for the politician proposing it and for any who cosponsor it.
Also it's possible that a politician proposes a bill and just doesn't get enough support from the public to make it worth the effort to try and pass it. That would be on us gun owners.

• Yes, America hasn’t functioned as a Constitutional Republic based on limited government for some time!

• Yes, politicians (regardless of party affiliation) should always be viewed with a certain degree of suspicion!

• Yes, most (if not all) in power probably are only interested in their own selfish interests, and will most likely not keep to many of their campaign promises.

• Yes, many of the pieces of proposed legislation are probably, in part, designed to garner more votes, and not actually “move”.

• Yes, many of the pieces of proposed legislation, even when meant to remedy a serious problem, are inherently unconstitutional (as they don’t completely deregulate small arms)!

• However, just like the “opposing team” (“grabbers”), we need to be more proactive and devise ways to challenge these infringements, and go on the offensive and push for policies that can lead to the deregulation of small arms!

• The “grabbers” are very good at getting “things done” and making moves! Why can’t we do the same?

Any ideas? (Some seemed to be going some where with what can practically be done now)

*I understand the cynicism, but “rolling over and giving up” certainly won’t do much!

We need to push for grand legislation that has no chance of passing so that we can then "compromise" on some intermediate goal.

Don't just propose a Hearing Protection Act, propose a complete repeal of NFA. Push that as the major legislative goal.

Then when the debate has shifted, and the votes are getting ready, then bring out the HPA as a "compromise".

Next year do the same for SBRs.

We didn't lose our rights all at once, but we did lose them to people who were pushing for everything and then settled for one more infringement. They just did that *a lot*.

Exactly right. It’s got to start somewhere. If we just keep lamenting that it will never pass, nothing will ever get done , why bother , I’m just gonna buy ammo , so on and so forth then truly nothing will ever change. As I’ve said in other threads like this one. If we choose to do nothing then nothing will surely get done.
