While I agree with the plight of the landlords, I don't agree with the potential results. The money will be coming from taxpayers (ME) if the suit is won. The funds should come from the tenants themselves.

It sucks but it was the government that caused the problem. The landlords should be compensated. I would love for it to be taken from the democrats political fund instead but that isn’t going to happen

No matter how hard you hit that stone, it will never bleed.

Unfortunately NY and the Feds caused the issue. They need to fix it. The profit margins on most rental property are razor thin, its pretty tough for small time investment property owners to go long lengths of time with no income.

Theft of property. Not only should they sue, they should file criminal charges again the politicians as if they had their homes vandalized by them -- because they did. Theft requires punishment.

Exactly. Many rental properties are owned by regular Joes. I'm a new landlord myself. I have a 4 unit property that I closed on last year. If all of my tenants stopped paying rent suddenly for the next year or more and I couldn't legally evict them I'd be fucked. Hell, it already takes a solid 6 months to get a non-paying tenant out doing it the legal way.

Wife was watching Dr Zhibago and its like the part where that doctor goes home and his house is filled up with commies free loaders as that's the new plan.

The demonrats, they are 60% in this state where they line up like like north koreans are getting what they vote for.

This hurts the smaller not so wealthy property owners way more, but the apartment complexes that are constantly being bought/resold, switching hands and management etc. with properties in multiple states, I honestly have little sympathy for.

Now that rent protections have been cut off completely in many states, cities, counties etc., rents are higher than they've ever been in existence as renters pay more and get less when renewing. This has led to less demand all across the country, more vacancies, and in return, even higher increases. So those that are actually paying our rent on time are also getting screwed hard.

It's no wonder that there are medium sized homes with 8 cars in the driveway and families are clearing out the garages for relatives to stay for a cheaper cost. 30 and 40 year olds can't afford a one bed room apartment anymore so they've moved back in with mom and dad.

Maybe the landlords should buy another house and pay a few more mortgages they can't afford? See what one sticks. lol

While he "couldn't " afford to pay his rent, one of my tenants managed to buy a newer used truck and a boat (also used). He went 5 months before I told him he had to get out or I would involve the lawyers. Luckily for me he was dumb enough to believe I would be the winner in that battle and he moved out! I still lost 5 months rent!

There are ways to get your renters to leave if they are not paying their bills.

Oh, how would I have loved to been able to get LE involved to get one of my old tenants out that way. But yeah, that ain't how it works in America.

I know in some states you can give the tenant 24 hours to 10 days to remove themselves, if not you can get a court order rather quick. They are given a few hours to get their stuff or else after that it's formal trespassing. Usually the sheriff assists if they are being stubborn/irrational. Which they can then be hit up with charges and sent to jail.

Cops won't do anything until you have a formal eviction. Its very difficult to get, everything is in favor of the tenant.
