I was in the town of Eden Tuesday (end of the month) and watched the local PD pull over three cars in less than half an hour. It was like a feeding frenzy. BS on no quotas.
So, are you implying that those drivers did nothing wrong? Or are you just upset that the cops were doing what they are paid to do?

It just shows how stupid having quotas for law enforcement is. If the quota doesn't comply with reality, then people will just make some up to match. Human nature. Senseless.

Of course there is quotas, especially with the NYPD. I don't know if each precinct has the same quotas. I have two close friends who were on the NYPD many years ago but transferred to other departments in Westchester. One was on Staten Island and the other was in Hunts Point and they both said there was quotas in place. They had to make a certain number of arrests and tickets for each type of offense. I don't remember what the numbers were for each one but I do remember one quota in particular in Hunts Point. He was required to write at least 25 open container tickets a week. He hated writing those tickets because in the summer there would be a guy sitting on the front steps of his building relaxing and drinking a beer after working all day and he would get a ticket for open container.

Hate to break it to you, but your friend left out a very important detail: he was in a special unit and agreed to that "quota" for the benefits it provided him (weekends off, steady tours, untouchable, plainclothes, etc). There is not and never was a regular patrol "quota" anywhere near that number. Patrol cops don't even write 25 summonses a month.
No different than my DV cops being required to make a certain number of home visits every month. He was either in a precinct conditions unit or a detail specific to Hunt's Point. Either way, he chose to be there for the benefits it provided.

I dont know about quotas but anyone who's ever driven through the town of Brant knows they use the police force as a revenue stream. Im convinced that the reason theres no speed limit sign between Cain rd and the rez on RT 20 is so they can write tickets.

The days of getting pulled over and getting a warning are pretty much over.
The only downside of dashcameras and body cameras: full enforcement.
I've been asking for a camera for years, hopefully soon I'll have one.

This group is a bad one for certain, but if you factor in the entire % of total LEOs, its a small number.. but i get it, we all know a few bad apples can ruin the bunch, but we (as the gun culture) must be better than that and lead by example.
Quotas wouldn't even be spoken of if this was the case. Each inividual cop would be writing tickets from the time they punch in until the time they left for the day.
Quotas aren't really spoken about much around here anymore but when it was common that's what I would always tell everyone. The truth is, here at least, the quota in conjunction with strong union support meant cops would give far less summonses that they could have been writing. The union made sure that if the city wanted 20 a month that not a single patrol cop wrote 21. That's less than 1 summons a day. The quota helped citizens more than it hurt them. That's a fact. Most of the discretion I used was because I was already done or only needed 1-2 more anyway, so why not? Robot world? I'd easily write 100+ a month, all from the thousands of legit infractions witnessed within any 30 day period.
I have no clue what it is like in small towns, but here, the demon quota was more beneficial than people will ever know. It's gone now though, so its a moot point.

Thats how its supposed to work. The fact that you guys temper the legislative insanity with good judgement just enables the legislature to completely abandon their duty to carefully engineer the law.

If its any consolation, it happens to people in the private sector all the time too. Try being in some customer facing role and getting blamed for assinine policies that upper management creates, you'll probably find it a very familiar feeling.
