I have fired M1 Thompsons at the Keystone indoor Range, outside of Pittsburgh...........

Heavy for sure...............does eat up the ammo....... that drum must weigh 25 lbs.

Aluminum versions of the Thompson were designed, but the war ended...............no reason why aluminum should not have been used in the fist place, but Gen Thompson/Colt did not have access to the alloy back then.

Also launches a heavier bullet better than twice as fast...about a hundred to hundred and fifty feet per second faster than the .450 Bushmaster.

Bullet weights for .458 SOCOM get as high as 600gr. Basically it's a 45-70 in an AR. My question is who the hell can afford to load up a drum full of the stuff these days?! And that type drum is both expensive and fragile, drop one loaded onto hard ground and it will break. Don't ask me how I know.
