I don't know about you guys, but dirty scope lenses drives me nuts. Not sure how everyone else does it, but this is how I do it. Please note: this task requires time, patience, attention to detail, and thoroughness. Trying to knock this out 1 hour before you're due for a wedding reception isn't the best time. Also, check your scope's owner's manual for suggestions.
First, I clean the dust and lint off carefully with a camel hair brush. My next move is to round up double-tipped cotton swabs, and glass cleaner. You can figure 2 swabs per lens. Leupold suggests alcohol or glass cleaner. I've never had much luck with alcohol, leaves a film. The best glass cleaner I have ever used is DG (Dollar General) home, and it's inexpensive to boot.
I dip the end of one swab partly in the glass cleaner, and GENTLY apply to the lens, ALWAYS in a circular motion. Use only enough pressure to gently clean. The object is not to scrub off the lens coating, nor scratch it. The object is to clean off spots, fingerprints, and any film present. Then, turn swab around to dry end, and dry/wipe off glass cleaner. Repeat with dry ends of second swab.
That's it, unless your lenses are very dirty, then repeat process.
Leaves my lenses shining like, well, glass, for cheap, and all the image quality you paid for.
