Ruger Mark IV Recall

Ruger recently discovered that all Mark IV™ pistols (including 22/45™ models) manufactured prior to June 1, 2017 have the potential to discharge unintentionally if the safety is not utilized correctly. In particular, if the trigger is pulled while the safety lever is midway between the "safe" and "fire" positions (that is, the safety is not fully engaged or fully disengaged), then the pistol may not fire when the trigger is pulled. However, if the trigger is released and the safety lever is then moved from the mid position to the "fire" position, the pistol may fire at that time.

Anything manufactured after the reason for the recall was corrected will have a serial number beginning with 5.

All their traditional handguns and rifles are fine, it's the value-engineered items that are dragging down all the firearms manufacturers. People aren't willing to pay for good steel and instead want a good steal. Bunch of cheap bastard gun buyers.

Who's the dumb ass who dreamed up a plastic frame 1911? You should be able to use your handgun as a hammer should you run out of ammo.

I'm confused. If you live in a state with magazine shipping restrictions (does this exist?), they'll instead send you a gift certificate so you can buy the magazine anyway?

I'm assuming this is their canned statement for recalls, which in other cases have been for guns that take magazines that hold 10+ rounds. I expect that they will send magazines to all US customers since 10 round magazines are legal in all states (as far as I know).

Bummer. This was going to be a purchase for me later this year or next. Though when new products are released issues do tend to need to be worked out. Either way I'll wait awhile to make sure the kinks are worked out.

Haven't heard anything from Ruger regarding returning my lower other than acknowledgement of registering for the recall. So I decided to shoot the gun today.

Came home from the range and the return box/label is waiting for me at the house. Sending it out Monday.

Only the Mark 4s with serial number starting with 5 are being recalled. If yours is then I'd give them a call or sign up online.

Thank you. I have one awaiting my license right now. I figured since ya’ll hold .22 pistol competitions I needed a gun to get involved.

Easiest reasoning for a new gun I could make up.
