I got a new rifle today. A Ruger No. 1 chambered in .257 Roberts. For those of you who aren't familiar the Ruger No. 1 is a single shot rifle and next to a muzzle loader probably the furthest from an "assault weapon" that a firearm can be. Ruger® No.1 Distributor Exclusives Single-Shot Rifle Models
The reason for me getting it is kind of a sad story. Several month's ago my aunt passed away unexpectedly from complications related to a surgical procedure. My uncle, besides being a certifiable gun nut, is very much beside himself and was looking to try and clean-up the house and gifted me the rifle. Had it transferred from his FFL in Wyoming to my FFL here in NYS. Almost feel sad seeing it leave a free state but considering it's not semi-auto it's safe from the anti goon squad for now.
As you can see from the pics he installed a scope on it and also had a gunsmith put a barrel different from the factory standard on it. If I remember correctly it was a lighter barrel to bring down the weight. Like many on here I'm more into black rifles but this is beautiful looking firearm if I do say so myself.
Literally just picked it up today and haven't had a chance to shoot it yet. Just wanted to share my latest acquisition and to see if anyone had any experience with this particular rifle or the .257 Roberts caliber. Specifically speaking about the caliber I've never tried it before but my uncle said he harvested a nice white tail buck on his ranch out west and assured me it would be a good deer rifle here.
