There was a story a few years back, big thing in California was to have "80% parties" bunch of people got together at someone's place who had a cnc or drill press, paid that person to do all the lowers

State got wind of it and started cracking down

I remember that.

I like it a lot. The reason I picked it over the others is it has steel bushings in the sides so the drill bits wont eat it up. The others may have adopted that since I bought it but that is a pretty big plus in my book.

What does everyone do to protect the bare metal? Nothing if the outside is anodized? I really like some of the non anodized 80% lowers but I'm not sure what to cover it with?

Basically your going to be using cerakote to cover the bare aluminum.

Ehh I bead blasted one and left the others alone. Unless you don’t like the look of bare aluminum, you don’t have to do anything to them.

Yes, dsdmmat is correct in that you really don't need to do anything with bare aluminum as it will eventually form a passive aluminum oxide film (1nm to 10nm) thick on the outside layer of bare aluminum and prevent further oxidation of the material.
