Democrats in rural America have a blunt message for the rest of their party: We saw the electoral disaster coming — and it’s your fault.Strategists and party officials say their warnings about the party’s lackluster outreach to rural voters went unheeded by Democratic leaders for years, culminating in this month’s shock defeat to Donald Trump. A presidential candidate who actually performed poorly in many cities and suburbs nonetheless scored an upset victory because of a surge in support from small towns and rural areas.
“The Democratic Party ceded rural America to the Republicans quite some time ago,” said Vickie Rock, a member of the Nevada State Democratic Central Committee from rural Humboldt County. “They invested nothing, they built no bench. They don’t even send out signs anymore, which is a staple of rural politics.

“All Trump had to do was peel off a small percentage of urban votes, and he was going to win,” Rock said. “Because he already had, in his back pocket, rural America.”

I live in rural America and the biggest problem is here is a lack of critical thinking. Catch phrases (Make America great again) are what people here love instead of taking the time to critically examine the issues. Trump commented during the campaign that he loves the uneducated and that's the majority of rural America. That is partially the Democrats fault because they have allowed the Republican party across the country to underfund our educational system and make it next impossible for many people to afford a quality college education.

My cousins, aunts and uncles from southern Erie County are life long registered democrats. A long line of farmers, second generation farmers, UAW workers and contractors. Some retired steel workers who were forced into retirement due to Bethlehem and Republic Steel closing. Lots of union guys. Many of my uncles worked two jobs during their working years. Their democrat roots go back to the days of Roosevelt and Kennedy. They saw "Bill" Clinton for the snake oil salesman he is along with every other DNC candidate for president/governor. Some have UnSafeAct sign in their yards still. What the DNC does not realize is they lost these people years ago, my relatives just haven't bothered to change their voter registration. My relatives have no use for the urban folks who don't want to work for a living. They would rather eat road kill than take government cheese, anything not earned isn't worth the bait it is. Many of my uncles are veterans of WWII, Korea and Vietnam. Some cousins are Iraq war vets. The folks from the 40's and 50'; maybe 50% of them have high school diplomas, the 60's, 70's, 80's maybe 10% of us have college degrees (me). On a funny side note; two FFL's in the family bloodline.

In a sense the 2016 election was a vote of people with work ethic versus persons void of work ethic.

No, actually it is a lot of hard working Democrats (yes, there are a lot of them) who do not like the way the Republicans keep trying to get into everyone's lives.
Takes a lot of stupid to drive these people away. Good job, Hillary, you've done the impossible.
