San Francisco state Senator Scott Wiener has introduced a new bill to decriminalize adult men having sex with boys and he and his allies in the media are smearing all opposition as "homophobic" and "anti-Semitic."

From The Federalist, "No California Shouldn't Decriminalize Adult Sex With 14-Year-Olds":
LGBT activists have pushed reasonable notions of equality to its limits with obscene perversions. State Sen. Scott Wiener, D-San Francisco -- the same lawmaker who co-sponsored a bill in 2017 to remove the felony penalty for knowingly exposing another person to HIV -- has introduced a bill, Senate Bill 145 to give judges more flexibility in sentencing gay men who abuse minors.

Under current law -- which Wiener, who is gay, describes as "horrific homophobia" -- a straight 24-year-old male who has sex with a 15-year-old girl can avoid being put on the sex-offender list if the judge feels the situation does not deserve it, but a gay man in the same scenario with a similar-aged boy would not be given the same option.

Pedophilia will be the law of the land in a decade or two. Democrats will push for it. Republicans will do nothing to stop it, so they can point fingers. SCOTUS will side with societal changes. Eventually Jeffrey Epstein will be turned into a martyr. It sounds ridiculous, but so did same sex marriages few decades ago. Now happy same sex couples are a part of every other TV ad. Once cultural standards are rejected, who is there to set the limits.

Often it’s a case of the 24 year old not knowing the true age of the “victim”. It’s a strict scrutiny standard of it “doesn’t matter” that they said they were 18, had fake ID, and that they met at an 18 and above event. The guy would still be considered guilty.

Just like some of the “teacher can’t sleep with students “ laws. Some of the “ victims” could be in their 20s and the teacher would still go to jail.

Same, didn't mean to imply otherwise.

I will say though that there are thousands of people who have ended up on the same lists as pedophiles and the like, based on *consensual* sex between say an 18 year old and a 17 year old. I don't know that I like that.

I was one of them that brought it up there and here. Many said I was nuts. Sad to say told you so on this. I wish I was wrong. I knew demonrats were going for this the way they justified gay Marriage

So I read this and it seems it won’t decriminalize it but it will allow the judge to decide on the merit of the case if the perpetrator should go in a sex offender registry or not rather than it being mandatory. Vaginal sex is afforded this scrutiny but oral and anal sex it’s mandatory to be placed on the sex offender registry. This is still a crime it’s just about the registry from what I read.
I don’t have an issue with the way it’s written if I understand it correctly. What needs to change is there needs to be an age gap. If my 18 year old son is dating a 17 year old female and they have sex it should not be a crime.

You get the same thing with DWI standards.

Nobody wants drunks driving around, but then they set the limit so low that one beer with dinner will put someone over, suddenly the "convicted of DWI" thing just doesn't mean "reckless asshole" anymore.

"Convicted felon" used to mean a bad guy you don't want anywhere near guns, but now you don't know if it means "murderer" or "a guy with a full sized magazine"

I do know. I definitely don't like that. I understand the line has to drawn somewhere but penalizing an 18 year old for the rest of his life seems way too harsh for me.

You are correct, both are wrong, and should be punishable in the street by the victims father.

I agree with you here as well. My wife and I have been together since we were kids (14 and 15 years old). There was a period of time I could have gotten in trouble just by pissing her parents off.

BTW this is exactly the kind of insane stuff some people on the right thought would happen. At least it seemed insane just a couple years ago. Hard then to believe, but here we are.

Well that's absurd and we all know it. Two 17 year olds it's fine but if one hits 18 first then it's statuatory rape. That's silly.

I think the author's view is that the original finding was bullshit, so he does not want more bullshit piled on. Objectively, forgetting the 24 year old guy and 15 year old girl, the author does not support added protections for an adult screwing a boy.
