Help me escape work place attack! What's your take on survival here? Killers (2) enter through reception area. One goes left into the print room and the other right wiping everyone who is in sight. Magnus is carrying a 1911 with 1 in the chamber, 7 in the magazine and a spare mag with 7 more. The first two shots alerting everyone happened in the reception area.

I like this. I'll take a better look when I have a few more minutes, but the force on Force class I did kinda dealt with something just like this. I don't want to give too much away for anyone that may take it in the future, but the value of that class was tremendous. I can't stress enough how everybody who carries a firearm for self-defense should take at least one of these classes in their lifetime, if not multiple.

Escape as in just get out safely? Take out the two gunmen as well? Save yourself? Save others?

Maybe take some of the desks from the war room, pile them in front of that door to the print room, shoot the first guy if you get the opportunity to, send the coworkers you're with out those double doors and windows? Assuming you can get those open, but I doubt they'd be locked from the outside. The door right near the closet looks like it's an option as well.

You're boned. There are maybe one or two groups of people in worse positions than you are. If those windows behind you are an option, I'd be using those. If that's not an option, running across the hallway out into the corridor and out of the building would probably be your best bet to get out without confrontation. I'd assume that if the killers came in, they wouldn't chase one person out and they'd be interested in killing people inside.

What is the fan looking thing all the way to the right? Stairs? If so, that would probably be my escape route. Maybe try to herd people over there while you engage if necessary?

There are windows in the office but co workers have decorated them with furniture and other obstacles. The door from me is accessible but once through that door everyone else is toast. That door also has the possibility to be an ambush point for people trying to escape as it leads right to the front entrance of the office. The closet in front of Scenario Magnus can be toppled over in front of the killers way.

Or, get to that corner in the "new printing room" and wait for a shot. The killer is not expecting armed resistance most likely.

I would stay in defilade low behind my desk with an aim axis toward the "new work bench" after shooing my co-workers into the back office toward the windows, and scattering chairs around to provide distraction for the BG. Unless he's really well trained at clearing the room, I think that angle would give the best opportunity to get the jump on him and protect the maximum number of people without unduly exposing yourself. it provides cover for your immediate co-workers, and provides the best position for protecting those down the hall in the new section. But hey, that's my untrained response.

If the BG who went left is serious about killing as many as possible, wait him out while in the best cover/concealment possible while being able to fire as he rounds the corner into your cubicle. As long as he's still searching and is active, he is the immediate threat. The shooter who went up the hallway is your secondary worry until the first is down, or walking away. If the latter, back shoot him, and if he has a long gun, do a tac reload on your 1911, re-holster, and grab the long gun and mags.

If you feel brave, and like your co-workers, proceed with the long gun, and taking whatever cover available, stalk and terminate the second shooter, he's probably too occupied killing to notice you, and probably figures his bud has his back.

If you don't care and just want out, grab the long gun and mags from dead shooter 1, and bolt. Call 911 and wait for your co-workers to get wasted. Toss the long gun down when you exit.

If both shooters clear every place without any resistance or hearing any LE response yet, they could be over confident, and search the area again - in that case, they'd probably find you, and then you have 2 to deal with.

Leaving your cubicle and running out will put you in direct-line of site with one of the assailants.

The assailant running your way is not going to stop where you show that he does because no one is there, he is going to keep moving looking for bodies. War room is empty maybe not. If not they dead. His natural instinct is to sweep through all of the quickest places he can get to and your open doorway to your cubicle space is next. That's where he is going.

I would get to the rear of your room towards the right side forcing everyone else to the left side and crouch down low to give the assailant the smallest target area and wait for him to come to you. You have the element of surprise on your side. You have a split second from the time you see him turn the corner till you open fire.

Keep in mind, you dont know at this point if there were 1, 2,3 or 4 assailants or where each is. You need to quickly make your way up to your cubicle entrance to give you the best vantage point. If it looks clear make your way across the war room through the hallway door. You will have everyone from your cubicle area want to follow you out since you are the man with the gun and their only chance.

I think these hypothetical scenarios are great.

They get you thinking How to react in a crisis.

Very serious questions to think about.
So you just shelter in place and try to find a good shooting angle in your office behind some cover and concealment to basically use the door as a death funnel?

Do you actively go looking for the shooters to engage them to save others?

Do you try to either stealthily or use force to find your way to an exit?

Move employees to green dot post up at black dot aim down red line , if bad guy moves to red line shoot , keep pressure shoot through walls ,move to blue dot and double back through reception or run away. Move fast don't hesitate and overwhelm with violence. I'd like to hear other people's input on this great post

The instinct and tactics will take over based on what you do in your regular defensive practices.
If you don't practice then don't engage, hide and might be able to reduce one guy from a blind angle if you can hold the pistol steady w/o shaking.
The biggest problem is how to deal with the brutal stress, nerves, adrenaline, tunnel vision.

Those of us with combat or LE experience may be more inclined to "hunt" down the threat and eliminate it. I for one would find it hard to jump out a window.
This is not just tought talk but I would be "comfortable" with neutralizing the enemy.

This might sound silly, and I know some will look down on this, but maybe try to find a tactical training class (simunition) or play airsoft in a cqb or milsoft enviornment. Obviously the stakes of getting shot by a plastic bb are nowhere near as severe as a real bullet, but it will give you real life experience of actively fighting others who are also trying to shoot you. Your body will still react with adrenaline and fight or flight. It may be a relatively harmless and accessible method to gain similar experience just at least to have something to draw upon even you are under extreme stress.

I tell you something else that you may find a bit far fetched but I always believed to hold true. Remember way back when, when as kids we were allowed to play cops and robbers or cowboy and Indians with toy guns or hunting for squirrels at a young age by ourselves because our parents had no time to go with us.

Well folks, these were our training grounds for the reality's in life. These simple games thought us the simple basic forms of survival. Hell I didn't want to get shot with a plastic BB or toy arrow so you naturally learned how to avoid to. As I got older you learned to hold your ground, defend your self in fist fights, an occasional baseball bat and if the shit hit the fan, how to high tail it the hell out of there. Hunting thought me the art of stealth, planning, making best use of your surroundings and the actual kill (an animal of course). To kill another living thing for the first time is tougher than people think. Imagine killing another human.

This stuff you can never learn from a computer or those damn X-box games or in a class. First hand experience is in my opinion the only way to learn and it needs to start from a young age.

This one was good. Gave the co workers a safe zone and a way to neutralize the threats. I think the threats would be busy and hopefully a little deaf. That would give an opportunity to sneak behind the threats and pop one then the other.

Are you able to watch their movements without giving your position away? Do they appear organized like they know what they are doing or are they haphazardly shooting anything that they see? Under the scenario one of them works here and knows the area, so he would take the side with more co workers. Number 2 is coming in blind not knowing the area after the printing room. You know, you're typical lone wolf.

Well throw that slab of bacon at lone wolf, then take his head off when he is screaming about being unclean and not getting his 72 virgins. Don't touch his gun and get as many of your coworkers you can get out without putting yourself in danger.

Any training is good and many times better than nothing. Specially if it means something to you.
Nobody will be able to say 100% certain what can help you or not in one specific situation.

Since I don't have any training outside of some general stuff I learned in ROTC 15 years ago, I'm not pushing the violence down the hall. I'll take what comes my way, but I'm not hunting the guy down. Since they have long guns and more ammunition and are all "aloha snack bar" I'm gonna be a little careful, but not try to put them in direct danger. I'd rather attract the danger to me to give my co-workers a chance to get out, I'll take my chances just to give them one. If I drop one, I'll grab his and wait out the other guy. I figure once his buddy goes down, the other will become rattled with nerves, hopefully at least leveling the playing field. I won't be a shaking mess (I hope), but I'll definitely be nervous.

Instinct kicks in. Keep out of sight from the killers, call 911, scan the area for a possible way to escape. If you are close with the killers, take them out with a head shot.

If you missed those shots, you're dead meat
