Came across a commercial website that claimed it's against federal law to ship automatic knives across state lines. According to them unless you're active military, work for the federal government, or are authorized to make purchases for the feds or the military...no bueno.

I've never heard this before. Could it be the dealer's own policy?

Yes, you will see that everywhere. I'm not going to give you legal advice, but I have bought several automatics and have never had any issues. For the record- the places that ship them do not check into any backgrounds- it's on you to be answering that part truthfully if you get what I mean.

Bigger companies are more anal about this. Smaller companies not so much.
That said, some of the assisted opening knives that have a spur are faster and easier to use than autos with a button. Just my opinion.

I agree about good assisted being as fast, or faster than autos. With ny's laws I pretty much carry assisted all the time as I don't want to forget an auto in my pocket and get jammed up by any idiot on a mission.

Yes they are, like I said above, it would be my luck to forget I have it on me and get arrested. I don't think any cops in the area would bother, but you never know.

There are countless places that will ship you whatever knife you want online, Just buy one and enjoy it. Hell you should be able to find local places that sell plentiful amounts of knives that aren't legal in NYS. They don't care, neither should you.

Next time you think any knife is safe, read NYS "dangerous knife" laws, because it doesn't matter if it's a box cutter for work or a european longsword tucked in your pants halfway. I don't advise to carry any obvious knife clip openly either, even if it's just a normal pocket knife. It's the difference of being searched and not being searched, doesn't matter the knife. Don't make it easy for a cop to find a reason.

You do not consent to searches or seizures of any kind anyways because your life and liberty are MUCH more important than the cop going against their oath by enforcing unconstitutional 2A laws which we should not forget includes knives and everything else on those stupid lists and definitions. They are all 100% legal for you to own and possess like all guns with or without a stupid licence. You are NOT doing anything wrong.

Just be discreet with auto knives, don't carry one with your CCW or in your vehicle where you and the property have a higher chance of being searched for whatever reason, and you're not going to have issues most likely.

Having said all that, that's the first time I've heard of a federal switchblade law, obviously that shit isn't enforced very well IMO.

Just keep a little collapsible fishing pole in your trunk, lol... Knife doesn't have to be with bait and nothing says you need a fishing license, just that it's permissible if fishing!

Worse thing they could get you for is attempting to fish, without a license, Hahahaha... And oh, be considerate as to what type of blade you carry. Benchmade is disposable. Some autos are not! Like the Microtech OTF Combat Troodon!

I really think they are a novelty. It's the kind of thing you show off to your buddies but they are just not as convenient for carry.
So if you want a blade for oneupsmanship an auto will do nicely. But a non assisted ball bearing action is the sweetest feeling to play with. Try any non assisted Zero Tolerance and you'll see what I mean.

Interstate shipping of automatic knives is prohibited by law ONLY through U.S. Postal Service. Other common carriers are not prohibited from shipping automatic knives. Even California lets you have automatics - with a blade under two inches. New York City has much more restrictive laws, many companies cite New York City Laws in restricting certain items from being shipped to New York state. New York City / New York State - two separate entities - both fucked up beyond belief!
