The protection from lasers depends on what wavelengths they are using. You can get glasses good for various wavelengths, caution they are expensive. If the thugs ever start using IR lasers you will need to have them on at all times to be sure.

You want as low of visible light transmission rating as possible. These are 50 something percent. Basically sunglasses. The optical density at +6 is good but What laser Are you trying to protect yourself from? these are good for violet and blue Wavelength: 190nm-490nm. I would be looking for more green and red since they are the most prevalent but if you can get one that does uv/ir and multiple wavelengths you would be better off.

It is my understanding (could be wrong) that the most common, very dangerous lasers, used by terrorists, are blue 450nm.

I want a high visible light rating, as I would be wearing them in low light conditions.

I need to see and aim while being protected from being blinded.

It's obviously not on any of my go to HD weapons, but if I suspect laser shenanigans might be afoot, that would be a great choice.

With one eye closed and the other on a video screen with an eye cup, I'm laser proof.

I'm not sure if the guy with the laser is .308 proof, but it might be worth finding out.

Honesty, most (maybe all) night vision equipment will protect you from a laser attack. The equipment might be damaged but it shouldn't be able to transmit enough light to cause any serious damage to you.

As for glasses, it's impossible to make glasses that transmit visible light while blocking all lasers. All the glasses can do is block the colors of common lasers and let other colors through.

If you block all possible laser colors, there is nothing left to see with.

I would be most concerned with IR lasers though, at least with the visible ones you will know you are under attack and can take countermeasures.

I think there are some cheapie ones out there that are probably crap for seeing in the dark, but would work fine for laser protection.

The cheapest most field expedient thing you could do would be one of those cardboard VR things that just holds your phone in front of your eyes.

Then just turn on the camera in the phone.

Get one of these and drill a hole for the phone's camera.

Bonus is you can have your phone record the incident and upload it to the cloud for a record of what happened that nobody on site can interfere with.

depends on the laser power .. .. 1 keep your eyes shut .. 2 .. hide case it sets you on fire .. i wouldn't trust some glasses .. shoot at it ...

i have one .. old glass tube type .,. i think its 5 mil a watts or 5 watts .. its some where in the shop .. its from a Military Range finder .. ,.. playing with it with spinning mirrors for effect on the wall,, yep i got flashed over the eyeballs .. flash flash .. fk like getting welding flash burns to the eyes .. just a bit worse ..

They are meant for VR, the software will run split screen and each eye will get a slightly different picture so you get 3D.

I have no idea how well they would work for this application, but if you're interested $30 isn't too much to play with it.

I just tried it, it's not great, but you could walk around and not bump into things at least.

You can download an app to make the split screen thing work with your camera so you don't go all cross eyed.

Probably don't need expensive Rx glasses. Maybe just some cheap reading glasses from the dollar store.

I just borrowed a pair of my wife's and they made a big difference.

That is thinking outside the box. Excellent idea. Depth perception and peripheral vision would be limited but overall an excellent work around.

This is definitely a great concept for a pair of Laser-Safe "Glasses" or vision equipment.

No Night Vision is required, just a pair of cheap cameras spaced 3 inches apart, and a display.

Obviously it would block every possible frequency of harmful light, including lasers, from entering your eyes, and would work day or night.

Considering how displays can be manipulated with software, I wonder if the optical correction of creating an image that can be viewed without corrective lenses is possible ?

If so, there could be everyday Eyeglasses that would totally replace Bi-Focals.

AND be tweaked for instant Micro, Macro, or Telescopic Vision !

Eyeglasses that focus for my eyes, are likely out of focus for yours.

The images going in to the eyeglasses are manipulated when they come out.

I do not understand why an electronic camera combined with a display cannot also be similarly manipulated, so as to create electronic corrective lenses.

A video screen can place sources of light of any color in any position. But they cannot control the direction the light travels once it leaves the screen. Each pixel emits light in a wide cone.

The lens doesn't change the location or color of the light, but it does change the direction it travels.

The lens controls the angle the light enters your eye at, a screen can't do that.

In my little bit of infantry training; a few summer camps our SGM had us keep one eye closed when looking for bad guys for laser protection. Told us we should expect enemy to periodically sweep our area with laser to blind us.

Read story that during nuke strike bomber pilots kept patch over one eye expecting to lose vision in other from the flash of a nuke detonation.

I think it is a brilliant solution, and I cannot imagine why it would not work.

Not sure if I need split-screen software, tho.

Well, in the olde days you could count on being chopped, sliced, diced during any battle.

If you survived at all, you would likely suffer an unstoppable infection, and die slowly and painfully.

And hunger ? Fossil Fuels and hard-working farmers have made that nearly unknown in the Western World.

The tragedy is this world COULD be a near Utopia, but the Powers-that-be have no motivation to accomplish that.

A perfect example is North Korea. Could be a wonderful country, but for perhaps half a dozen people at the helm.
