Congressman Robert Pittenger said Friday that he wants U.S. Education Secretary Betsy DeVos to look into reports that schools are indoctrinating students with an anti-gun political agenda.

His prime example: Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools' reaction to a principal's videotaped remarks about gun culture, delivered during a student "walkout" at Collinswood Language Academy on April 20 to demand safer schools. Student organizers and several parents said the impromptu comments, which interrupted a guest speaker, were bizarre and inappropriate.

In response to a Charlotte Observer query, CMS said that “appropriate actions have and will be taken to address concerns regarding this incident.”

They've been doing this for years. - 16 years ago, my then 5th grade Grandaughter came home from school, telling us how the teacher told them the 2nd ammendment was useless and 'unnecessary' in the modern world. I had to be restrained that day...just saying.

Private or home schooling is how you fix that.

The government should not hold me hostage to support an educational system if my kids do not go to a public school. Taking my money at that point, like many other taxes, is theft. To continue to tax parents, who no longer trust or believe in the public system, is forcing opinion on children through a financial incentive for parents to not pay double school costs -- resulting in their children going to a school they do not feel will provide a good education. It's forced brainwashing.

What say you on the fact that households with NO KIDS IN SCHOOL are taxed with school taxes the same way you are?

I don't think education should really be the government's job, since the government tends to do things in it's interest rather than that of the people. So in my ideal world, we would not have school taxes at all, and people would be responsible for raising their kids any way they see fit.

I brought this very issue up to Tom Libous years ago and he told that it is in the NYS Constitution that property owners have to pay school taxes. The other thing that sucks is if you send your kids to a private school, or a church affiliated school you have to pay tuition and still have to pay school taxes to the very school district you hate.

Can't blame it on schools, or their programs. If you are an absentee patent and never talk to your kids, "you" become the problem. I deprogrammed a lot of the BS they spew at the kids... It was simple, dinner conversations with no electronic device distractions, simple discussions about what's happening, what is taught, what was discussed @ school and offering my opinion and thoughts. Eventually, the kids see the difference between "book" & "reality" and will take notice that what you have said rings true. Then they will be able to differentiate and sift through all the BS. There's plenty of benefit to utilizing shools for education, especially if your school district is top notch, there's a good chance you won't have much deprogramming to do, lol. But that doesn't mean you sleep! Never get caught napping!!! My kids would roll their eyes at times because they heard the story before... Funny thing is years later, they laugh now and have told me, "dad" I thought you were nuts, but I see now what you meant and we're right. Even if they disagree, they can objectively see both sides of an argument and not just accept what is pushed or thrown at them. They weigh and measure all information and decide for themselves! And "that" is all I could ever ask for! ;)
