Well the Chinese ruined another American classic.
Picked up a new issue off amazon with a gift card.
Worst part is the fake stag plastic handle, wondering if I could get a real one or perhaps a nice wood one to suffice somewhere?
Is it made well? Or is it crap?
Im on my second 50 dollar Buck 119 in 30 years. The first was still in perfect shape but it fell in the lake.
The Buck may be cheap but its a good knife and it is made in the USA.
Anyways, ive had several knives like yours that have been ok in the field. It will gut a deer, cut rope, and eviscerate a criminal.....what else you need?
Wont know how well it holds an edge till I use it a bit.
The other schrade buck in the pic has been my main blade for 30 yrs. holds an edge forever , locks up tight and no play side to side either. Just saddens me to see such a cheapo with the schrade name on it.
I have an issue with the cheap looking plastic ,I'll work on some kind if remedy...it was cheap.
The original UH 171s are going for a good $150+ on ebay.
I really dislike the uncle henry line. It all looks like garbage to me with it's crap steel and junky handles. I'm gonna +1 on the buck remark, should have gotten a buck dude.
I mean the schf9 I have is clearly a cheap knife, but it doesn't pretend to not be. It's big ass chunk of steel that I could hurl into a tree and not give a shit. the tip could break off and I wouldn't even be sad about it. It's a beater knife and I wouldn't sell it as much else.
Now the tops I have on the other hand, if that sucker ever failed I would be pissed and I certainly am not gonna hurl it into trees or pry things open with it (although it's pretty thick so it would probably be fine).
Picked up a SOLINGEN GERMAN Stag Hunting knife back in 1983. Been carrying it ever since when out hunting. Easily skinned +/- 35 deer. Lost it twice in the woods and found it both times. Carbon steel 6" blade that holds a razor edge. Wouldn't replace it for any other knife.
