Downside is the gun is massive AF, and expensive AF and the only thing shooting that cartridge right now.

Hmm. Looks like because of that, 10mm may be the best option then. 1700 FPS with a 115 gr Xtreme Defender and heavy grain for woods with a brace.

If Underwood would load the 100 gr Xtreme Defender for .40 S&W into the 10mm, we may have what we are looking for here or at least very close to it.

A lot of effort and time has been put in wounding potential but that does not accurately reflect stopping power.

Hydraulic shock and large cavitation happens at 2000-2100fps minimum impact for small bore up to 30 caliber and 338.

Bullet makers (including rifle) advertising bullets up to the 1800fps threshold they fail to warn that, while expansion
and penetration might be optimal, the killing potential is considerably impaired, specially the fast incapacitation potential.

Once you step into the 35 and 375 and above this threshold comes down to 1600-1800 fps depending on terminal design and material
so fragmentation projectiles are excluded.

A 357 SIG can put a 90gr-100gr solid copper bullet to 1700-1800fps range. A 80gr solid can be pumped past 2000 fps.
That is where the difference is in the other side of physics and true stopping power with fast incapacitation. In modern
tactics the added hard barrier penetration is a plus.
Current pistol projectiles and powders were not available at the time of the writing by Dr. Fackler or any other ballistics forensics.

The SS knows this and possibly our ballistics dissection is not one of the main determining factors. We need to understand
what tactical decisions were made and why otherwise is just speculation and more fruitless ballistics discussions.
