Depends on the type of camera you're using and how wide the viewing angle is. This article says to mount them at eye height so you can actually see someone's face, instead of the top of their head.

That being said, I'm wary of putting them that low. Mike just had his cameras spray painted and smashed at AllStar this week, I contend they were too reachable.
Mine are all mounted higher and aimed lower. Driveway one (mounted in eave) will see your face all the way up the driveway. Front door (mounted in eave) will get most of your face, and my 3rd camera out back (mounted on the wall) most likely won't get your face, but I'm only watching my cars and the garage door from that view

What size lense? 2.8mm? 4mm?
2.8mm will yield you a larger viewpoint while a 4mm is 'zoomed in' a little bit.
According to the specs they are 3.6mm (100 degree viewing angle).
Okay, soffits of your house should be a good height.
I have a 3-story brick house. Soffits are way up there. I will run the wire on the outside of the house and use plastic junction boxes to protect the connections from weather.

So I got 3 of 4 cameras up. The fourth was defective and had to be sent back to China. I’m ordering 2 more plus the defective replacement which will make 6 total.
I already have 4 more places in mind but at 170 a pop I gota hold off for a while. I’m running on an nvr with a 4tb purple hard drive.
I still need to figure out how to view on my phone and review the footage.
I ran and wired all the cat5 myself which I’m glad about because it was easy once you figure it out.
I do wish I had used different color cat5 cable but that would have been costly.
Also kinda wish I had looked into this blue iris but when it comes to software stuff I’m really novice. ( I don’t even know how to review the video now) I guess I’m gonna just keep playing with it and see how it goes. Otherwise I’m gonna need to call in the pros @NYGuns

I'm still running POE cameras I put in place about 4 years ago (hikvision 3MP, they've been rock solid). Love em. A coworker showed me his interior Canary camera setup yesterday. Run on lithium batteries. He's had it for a year says no problems at all with it. The quality looked pretty solid on his phone. He's a manager of IT and entirely capable of setting up an elaborate system himself but these were quick and dirty and seem to be satisfying him.

I switched to Ubiquiti network and surveillance gear in 2017 for myself and clients. I've installed just over $30K of it in 2018 and so far everyone is pleased, especially myself. I can manage every network from a single SDN login and have been able to fix all kinds of lingering issues at client sites through the metrics available with the SDN console. Their newest NVR is a tiny box that houses a 2T HDD (up to 5T) and the CloudKey controller CPU/software. $200 gets you the whole deal including the Unifi Protect NVR software (also available for free if you want to roll your own) Their cameras are excellent, PoE and have very good low light performance. If anyone has questions about this brand, let me know. Not interested in taking on new clients, but happy to answer questions, etc.
I am happy with my Night Owl so far. Already used it to investigate flat tire incident. Turned out to be a faulty tire valve, didn't even know this could happen. No one was seen approaching this wheel. After I added some air, apparently valve didn't shut off completely and leaked most of the air out by next day. It's all fine now. If I didn't have security cameras, I would suspect my neighbors. Possibility of a faulty valve wouldn't even cross my mind.
I actually could see a burst of air leaking from the tire during night vision phase.
Security cameras are a good investment, highly recommend it.

He could be thinking Bluetooth, or hard-wired only.. maybe have a "dock" that you plug the phone into to access cameras? Maybe he's worried about being hacked.
Still waiting for more details on why to avoid Reolink! Seems to be a great value.. obviously would prefer American-made quality gear (what brands are those?), but $$$

If there is a house without internet you can still use IP cameras and view them on your phone, just need a wireless router. You can also view them locally on your phone (from within the same network). If the location has no internet then you're not able to view them remotely.
Reolink cameras are bad quality, don't last and are not reliable. I have seen them break for no reason countless times and have replaced quite a few.
I would prefer American-made quality too, but that's not in the cards right now. The good brands are made in Asia

Thanks man, appreciate it. Wifey doesn't think wiring up cameras in the current house is worth it if we're looking to expand... I feel it would add resale value to include a camera system, then use the knowledge gained to install a better system in the new house. We'll see what we get back in taxes...
