Ok. I'm using Swann Pro-Series HD system right now, thought about just upgrading one of the cameras or using one that's in use now.
Are they IP cameras? If so then you can make it happen with just 1 cat cable.Ok. I'm using Swann Pro-Series HD system right now, thought about just upgrading one of the cameras or using one that's in use now.
No, BNC cable and power. Are they IP cameras? If so then you can make it happen with just 1 cat cable.
Looks decent enough! Go for itI'm thinking of offering my stepdaughter a good deal on our Swann system we have now and replace it with this one.
Swann 8 Channel Security System: 5MP Super HD NVR-8580 with 2TB HDD & 4 x 5MP Thermal Sensing Bullet Cameras NHD-865MSB
Should be easier to work with running cable farther up the driveway, and if it works well, the thermal sensors should help separate people from trees lol.
OK, stupid question... What kind of idiot up to nefarious ends will deliberately walk into the field of floodlights and potential cameras??? Just wondering.
Good job, @Cleck! Hopefully they catch the dude
Always refreshing to see what folks in states with strong anti-crime gun laws must do to be safe.
That is pretty good video. Enough to convincingly ID if cops know of him locally. Night time video is damn hard on residential gear without lots of light like you have.Well, a little update on my system. After going back and forth with the company and getting nowhere other than 2 new cameras, I decided to just roll with these until I upgrade them to better ones. I now have 3 of the 4 mounted. They overlook the cars, front door, and driveway looking at the road. I treated all the outer lenses with Rain-x and haven't had an issue since, so I'll take it. Next time I'll spend more to get more and avoid this.
The driveway one I managed to mount using a trick I saw online. I took some aluminum and mounted the camera to it, then wedged it between the edges in my soffit. Works like a charm. I mounted this one in front of the LED flood light, so it's always lit, so I forced the software to not go into night mode, it's always color.
Since it's varifocal like the others, I zoomed it in slightly so I can get a better look of anyone coming up the driveway. It has already started paying off.
Neighbors complained a few weeks ago that their unlocked cars got hit. Went back and checked the tapes and found this asshole at 12:47 on a Friday night. I was most likely in bed on my phone at the time. Since then, I've set up this camera to send me alerts to my phone, but I need to find a sensitivity that doesn't set it off all the time when my stupid cat walks up and down the driveway. So far, haven't found a good sensitivity or threshold yet.

Called IPD right after and was able to show them this. "Can you rewind that so I can take a picture/video?" "How about I just send you the video file?" "You can do that?" Hell yeah son, that's why I built this thing!
So I'm glad I did it, I've learned a bit. It works for my needs. I'll keep tweaking the sensitivity until I can get it right. I'm happy with the app on my phone to view the cameras, I just wish the software would allow me to see what camera I'm looking at when I am trying to pick a camera. It just lists them as Camera basically. I was able to name the cameras by logging in to each camera, but I couldn't do it through the NVR software so that kinda sucked. There's an option to do it, but it doesn't save it. Like I said, for now, this works.
I guess we have the same neighbors.Stupid ones. Most of the people on my street don't even have lights on, despite me constantly telling them. This guy gave no fucks, he was casually strolling, it wasn't even 1am.
This is why people make such shit witnesses in criminal cases. People are dumb and trust poor senses.

I have my cameras setup the same way you do, with pieces of wood wedged under soffits. Have held for several years without fail.

So I’m getting ready to run cat5. My modem, router, and cell signal enhancer are in my spare bedroom. I want to view the cameras in my bedroom tv. Do I run HDMI from NVR in spare room or do I put NVR in bedroom and run cat5 to the modem? I don’t know much at all About this stuff.

Andy is the man, I've been working with him for years and IP Cam Talk is the best security forum on the web!I did ! It’s truly amazing he shipped from Hong Kong on Thursday and their on my porch Monday.
Thanks so much for the heads up on ipcamtalk. Lots of great info, it’s gonna cost me a fortune now!
@NYGuns - Any chance you can detail what is needed to remote into my system from work and watch on the pc instead of just looking at the phone app? I feel like I can figure it out, but not exactly sure
Gladly...Few questions first. How are you watching on your cell? Is port forwarding already set up? What kind of system is it? Do you have DDNS set up or a static IP?
Shoot me a PM, will need to discuss private things like IP addresses, etc.I'm watching on my phone via the app that came with the NVR. It's an Amcrest NVR and app. I don't have port forwarding set up for this program, maybe just for other stuff at home, but not this. I'd have to check to see what the settings are on the NVR/PC when I get home to answer that last question
