Sorry for the repost but watch what happens to those targets
Many cheaper versions of this pump
That right there is an entirely adequate defensive collection
Most any non "barrier blind", which is just a fancy term for hollow or soft point expanding but non fragmenting projectiles, will rapidly yaw after hitting just about any object and then fragment when it strikes the next object. I like to run 77gr OTMs but I think standard 55gr M193 will do okay up close and on a budget. Provided you don't need barrier penetration that is.I would wait until you hit 21, then build an AR. Buy the upper pre-assembled if you don't want to deal with a torque wrench. The lower is a piece of cake to build.
Concerning over penetration, ......

Actually I take back what I originally said here. I would look into some of the dedicated, low grain home defense 556 rounds. They are supposed to fragment more when hitting hard barriers and over penetrate less.

Meaning penetration on drywall? Drywall won't stop anything. Link to the video you are referring too?I originally said something similar to this, but I went back and edited it out after watching some of the drywall tests of 55 grain on YouTube. They weren't very convincing.

There's a few, but I liked this one in particular. There is the possibility that its because of the type of ammo they're using, but I'm not sure.
Your take?
Thanks for posting but this seems so arbitrary. I don't understand what they are trying to show here other than perhaps some cool footage?
One chooses the ammo that better suites ones objectives.
Yes, I agree it's not very scientific. I haven't been able to find tests using more accurate representations of real exterior walls in a home. But I posted in response to Podmonkey, and my point is that 55 grain may not have the desired effect of yawing and fragmenting before the bullet exits your house. It may be more helpful to use rounds designed for home defense or possibly varmints that I would speculate are more consistent in their fragmenting on impact with barriers.
Some varmint rounds might be ok but others might provide a broad wounding but not enough penetration. Perhaps a match bullet would make more sense
and many work great in soft targets like the Sierra 77gr TMK or hornday 75gr hpbt. Tap ammo uses that one and it is designed for patrols and swat teams.
If one lives on an apartment or shared home or something and there is a serious concern of going and hitting someone else then one should be very careful wiht the ammo choices. Otherwise choose whatever it is going to be the fastest way to neutralize the threat and I would not worry about drywall. The above doesn't represent so many other things that are in the way like large pieces of wood, furniture, pipes, air vents, glass, etc... In reality between modern town houses and apartments none of the rounds will make it through the typical firewall. I think situational awareness and training and assuring one makes contact seems like a better way to assure results and reduce the doubts about potential collateral damage.

I pretty much agree with what you're saying.
^^^I would like to see some video evidence of this before I'm totally convinced though.
IMO The video will not help since you need to know how yours is built specifically. They can be similar or totally different.
Back when I was just starting out I had a Maverick Model 88 shotgun, a 10/22, a Colt HBAR Match and a Dan Wesson 357 Magnum. I think you are doing just fine.Sorry boys, this is what I got for now. -10 points for random power outlet View attachment 7802
