Moving to a strong red state, you won't have to worry about this crap coming from the state level.

It still might happen on the federal, that's always a concern.

If that happens on a federal level I'm much less concerned about "insert east TN county sheriff here" enforcing a federal law he is openly against. It would be a hugely unpopular law within that area.


So... It's true you can't run forever but you can position yourself to be around others who view things as you do so you can all collectively stand together and not be at risk of being singled out and made an example of in an otherwise hostile blue state that hates you.

So after the governor signs it today, how long until it takes effect? Is there some time frame for them to create the rifle license? I had been wanting to get one last semi auto rifle (Ruger 10/22) and wonder if I need to rush out this morning and get it, or if I have days, weeks, or months before it takes effect

You are correct! new purchases as they got burnt with registration after the Safe-act but Gun shops they can control.

Im surprised they are requiring licensure instead of an outright ban, but the latter would go to scotus and the former has been—IMO—tacitly okayed. The 2008/2010 rulings indicated no concern with state approval for handgun purchase.

It does seem to read that way. It almost also seems to read like you need a license to buy but if it expires you just can’t buy new, but could keep what you have. I’ve had zero days in law school though.

From what I have understand the license is to purchase and sell semi automatic rifles. You do not add new purchases to your license like a pistol permit. They don’t know what you buy or sell. They just approve who can buy and sell with their licensing scheme. What we don’t know yet is the cost and requinents.

FFL s in NYS will have to comply.

That's the problem with NY bills. They write them so vaguely that nobody can decipher what they are actually saying. This leaves it open to the public and law enforcement to interpret for themselves what it means. And that can be a good thing or a very bad thing for the gun owning citizen.

Unless I’m wrong I don’t think there is a registry. I don’t think the rifle would be added to your permit like a pistol. It’s simply a license granting your permission to purchase semi autos. If I understand correctly.

We will find out soon enough. I am imagining it to be based on the pistol license system as a template but I could be mistaken. Either way it blows.
