This post is a example of why NYS gun owners are in the position we are in. Not paying attention to what goes on in regards to our new gun laws probably means they don't pay attention when it comes time to vote. Or worse they forget to vote.

How it works is republicans are out numbered by at minimum 2:1. Anyone that says gun owners voting can solve NYS politics doesn’t know shit. I’m sorry but everyone I know votes and is pissed regardless of they know what the CCIA is or not. NYC is our problem, but keep voting.
I’ll add that no one above city level that I vote for every gets elected from NYS. Yes I voted for trump and yes he was elected, but I don’t count that because all NYS EC a votes go democrat.

Unfortunately unless you vote that is what happens. Take a look at the special election in August for CD 19. If you look into the amount of registered voters who actually voted my guess is that it's under 30%. Looking at registered Republicans in the district I think it was less then that, so if you correlate Republicans as 2A supporters then definitely they are not all voting.
Might not make a difference state wise, but a Republican congress is a very important counter balance.

We will never have a Republican Congress in NYS. Most districts are democrats and they have a super majority. Special elections are not a good representation of voter turnout and are historically way lower than others. Just like primaries.
Here’s an article saying 91% of democrats still support hochul and considering democrats outnumber republicans 2:1 that spells doom no matter of all gun owners vote. Hochul has narrow lead over Zeldin in New York governor’s race: poll
Remember gun owner doesn’t equal Republican and gun ownership rates in NYS are projected to be very low compared to national average at around 30%. So maybe it does correlate because we have some independents as well. I could see NYS make up being 60% dem, 30% rep, and 10% ind. That doesn’t bode well for us winning elections unless very low numbers of dems show up to vote, but half would have to stay home.

That equates out to 3.5 million voters in 2018 governors race we had about 6 millions voters turn out. I would say that the special election turnout in an off year is pretty good.

A couple of things here, voter affiliation is about 50%d, 22%R and 23%I. Nothing you can do about the assembly, but up until 2016 the senate was controlled by R's (with renegade D's helping).

If look at the results over the last couple of cycles in cd 19 you can see how the numbers for the R candidates are usually plus minus 12k-15k. The d candidates are about plus minus 30k, so they are definitely getting the vote out. The d's have a number advantage overall for the district but definitely not overwhelming. Wrong.. Ammo can legally be shipped directly to a consumers doorstep in NY (except for NYC) at this time. There is no logging in / reporting of any ammo purchase(s). There are still ammo distributors / sellers across the US that know the NY laws and will ship directly to your door. Use them and appreciate them for knowing the laws. These days, sellers of ammo and most anything firearm related see and hear the two letters N and Y together (NY) and just decide they won't do business in this state because they don't have a clue. Next year, when NY is supposed to become a POC state for NICS checks, it looks like the ammo database bullshit will become law.

Please tell that to the sellers (who have it listed in their policies) and my FFL (who used to accept ammo for free as a service to his regular customers, but now charges $5 due to the extra work involved).
I've ordered from two different ammo companies in the past week and both required I send a copy of the ffl and have it shipped to him.
FTR I'm in Orange county too.
EDIT: It is possible that the companies I'm ordering with are playing things safe by following the last CCIA requirements, but I believe they're still in place (hopefully not for long)

I want to add that one silver lining to this is that I finally saw a lot of ammo in the Walmart shelves. Apparently many people don't want to provide all their info, so that left more for those that dgaf.
However, for the last three times I bought ammo there, each time was a different process since they seem confused about the process. Plus good luck getting quick help to unlock the case.

Controlled? That’s a stretch honestly. Yes it was 50/50 or slightly Republican but in name only as you indicated. The only reason this happened is some dems got pissed off and changed over to the other side. I forget the story.
With the redistricting this may change but we will have to see.

I never said it wasn’t important to vote and I always vote. My vote generally doesn’t matter in NYS, but I always vote. All I’m saying is telling people we can change the entire political field in NYS if gun owners got out and voted in NYS is simply false. That’s my one and only point.

You’re wrong. As of 9/1/2022 there is an ammo background check in place but no mechanism to do this. NYS law mandates that ammo sellers obtain certain information. If this isn’t the case why have all local stores inside of NYS started this? It is also detailed right here by NYS. The actual ammo background check has been moved to 9/13/2023.

I’m guessing some outside of NYS have said we are not registered ammo sellers so we do not have to keep this record. I will agree with take note of them and support them, but they are getting few and far between.

The runnings by me was well stocked and prices are cheap. They had a sign saying NYS law requires us to collect certain information. I walked by and passed on $3.49/50 round box of .22lr becuase I don’t want my information collected.

Yeah, I definitely understand. At Walmart at one point they said you need to provide a driver's license and your occupation, but nbd to me since I already do the same for gun purchases and normally they want age proof for ammo. After 3 trips I ended up with maybe a dozen boxes of Federal Automatch 325 at $22 a box. For me the biggest pain was waiting by the case for help (and one time the salesperson actually had to walk me to Customer service to finish the purchase...waited in line with me too!).

In 2014 the same requirement to record all your info for an ammo purchase existed and its right in the FUAC unsafe act but it was an election year for FUAC and no one implemented it. Unsafe plainly states there would be a book and information would be recorded. Horeface just reinvented the same bullshit but now they are doing it.
