When first opened, most malls were for those with vehicles and cash........the inner city busses did not go to the malls.
Inner cities, in the 1970's like Syracuse with many small stores and some big ones, had a big minority problem , like Sears and Montgomery Ward on S Salina St.........so the malls were conceived to isolate them from the riff raff theives.
Dewitt Mall had a huge problem, as did Fayetteville mall, Great Northern mall, etc with minority protests about racism. Today most malls are as dead as graveyards.
Destiny Mall/Carousel mall needs an cop army to protect shoppers................minority scum have essentially created the Internet OUT OF NECESSITY, as an alternative to getting shot or robbed...........

Imagine if that same piece of scum did that down in a mall in Texas? There would be minimal detective work needed, as the "citizen army" would neutralize the threat on site, immediately. They would find the piece of scum on the floor wishing they weren't stupid and putting people's lives in danger.
This is what happens when you don't allow the right people to be armed.
Now because the piece of scum is out on the loose, it is costing us as taxpayers an enormous amount of money as each day rolls by. Think about that for a moment.

Given the number of cameras throughout the mall, I have to say it is a little surprising that someone can get away with this.
Same shit happened in WNY with the Galleria Mall. When first opened it was beautiful, - loved going there to shop and eat at multiple restaurants besides those in the food court upstairs at the time. Built by the Pyramid Company out of Syracuse. Private property. And guess what: they kept the NFTA buses off of the property. They had to get on and off on Walden Avenue and cross a lot of traffic.
Until a black girl named Cynthia Wiggins who worked at the mall and rode the bus from the East Side Ghetto decided to jaywalk one day and got caught in traffic and killed. And suddenly the racist war was on. Even the great Johnnie Cochran came to town and made the Wiggins family rich even after he took his big ass cut. As I recall, those race hustlers Al Sharpton and the righteous extortionist Reverend Jesse Jackson also showed up. It was an amazing shit show.
And so what happened: The mall owners caved in after paying out, and now the NFTA buses all pull directly into the Mall lots. And now? The place is a crime ridden hole, - nothing like what it started out as. You put your life at risk going there.

When I was a kid, my parents and I would go to the Galleria, and Carousel. Also the Penn-Can mall too. Great place to be as a family back then.
Now, the only thing I go to Destiny for is Best Buy if I'm out that way. I'll go up on that little parking deck and run inside, get what I need and leave. I have no interest in that place, in fact, it smells funny in that mall. I go home smelling like "mall" and it's not a pleasant smell. Even in as little time as I could pick up an order in Best Buy it goes on my clothing.

Friday's shooting at Destiny USA marks the third time in approximately a year that a gun has been fired inside the mall in Syracuse. Local officials and law enforcement have indicated they are doing everything they can, placing responsibility on either national gun legislation or the owners of the mall themselves.
On Friday, Syracuse Police Chief Joseph Cecile said that everything had gone to plan Friday evening after someone fired a gun at a trash can, which he said was likely an intimidation move against others the suspected shooter was in a dispute with. The shooter is still at large, and police have not yet recovered the gun used. No one was hurt.
This incident comes about a year after three gun-related crimes at Destiny USA happened within three weeks of one another. An argument lead to one of the men involved shooting the window of DSW, Juli Boeheim was robbed at gunpoint by a 12-year-old boy, and a man fired a gun in an attempted robbery during an "online sale" meetup at the mall.
At the time, Syracuse police met with mall leadership to discuss security. It's still unclear what exactly was talked about and what tangibly changed.
Fast forward to this past Friday, and Syracuse Mayor Ben Walsh released a statement blaming national gun laws.
“Sadly, today’s gunfire at Destiny USA is just the latest example of how the proliferation of guns in our country has made every community less safe," Walsh stated in a tweet.
A city spokesperson confirmed that Walsh spoke by phone with Destiny USA owner Steve Congel on Monday morning to discuss the Friday incident, but no further details about that conversation were provided.
The mayor and others have repeatedly said that Destiny USA's problem is not unique. CNY Central searched for gun crimes at other major malls, finding that the five biggest malls in the country, except for one, experienced at least one gun-related crime in the last year.
The Mall of America in Minnesota, the country's biggest mall, began experimenting with a weapons detection system in October. Recently, in December of 2022, there was a fatal shooting; in August, two were shot and injured.
Clifford Ryan, the founder of OG's Against Gun Violence in Syracuse, said that Destiny USA does not strike him as a particularly problematic area when compared to the rest of the city. He patrols neighborhoods constantly to intervene and stop violence from happening. He said the ultimate problem is how easy it is for younger people to get their hands on guns, but he does want to see more from mall security.
He said that when you're at the mall, its a safe assumption that someone in the building with you is carrying an illegal firearm on them.
On Nov. 28, 2022, police said a suspect involved in a robbery that took place at the Finish Line in Destiny USA displayed a handgun to employees to deter them.
"Something has to be put in place to be a deterrent for an individual to even think about bringing a firearm into the mall," Ryan said.
Destiny USA nor Congel have returned a request for comment from CNY Central, first submitted to them Friday evening. They have never responded to a request for an interview from CNY Central, dating back well over a year ago in reference to crime at the mall.
A request for information from the mall's security team, Allied Universal Security Services, has also gone unanswered.
Syracuse police confirmed that the mall independently pays two to five officers each day to work a security detail. A spokesperson for Onondaga County confirmed that the mall also pays county probation officers to work security four times a week, including every Friday and Saturday during peak mall hours.
A full-time patrol of the parking lot is no longer active, according to SPD spokesperson Lt. Matthew Malinowski. He said there is still one car on site, however, and neighborhood patrols occasionally make rounds.
According to the Onondaga County Sheriff's Office, Dick's Sporting Goods and At Home each pay for one deputy to work security inside their stores to deter thieves each day.
Since March of 2022, rolling patrols from New York State Police have been in the surrounding streets and neighborhoods around Destiny USA as part of the Community Stabilization Unit at the request of the Syracuse Police Department.
According to Syracuse police data, the northern district of the city — which includes the mall — has seen a 26.4 percent increase in violent crime over the last five years. CNY Central has asked Syracuse police for mall-specific data.

I was there yesterday afternoon actually. I needed something done with my iphone that only an Apple tech. Could handle. I saw the “ One of five” security personnel while I was there. He stood outside the Apple store near a seating area talking with another individual for well over an hour, without so much as looking up or around at his surroundings. I haven't been inside Destiny for 6-7 years. I fk'n hate the place. But I have been behind the mall a few times to check out the Eagles.
Ex wife called me a few days before the latest shooting and mentioned she wanted to take the two grand sons to the area behind Destiny to get a look and maybe some pics of the Bald Eagles that gather there in the winter. She said when she asked our daughter, daughter said no, it's too dangerous. So ex wifey asked if I would accompany them, I said I will, but told her to run it by the daughter first for the official ok 'cause I didn't wanna get bitched out LOL. Wife called daughter and daughter said ok, if I go with them, armed. Hhmmm... mall property, felony if caught, so I told the ex I'd think about the "armed" part. Then after this latest shooting ex wife called saying daughter decided not to let the boys go Eagle watching, regardless if I was with them or not.
