They are anti rotation tabs to keep the hand guard from spinning. Shouldn't need them if it has a good clamping design.

Does nothing for vertical location then? Something is out of spec then. I have sent an email with those pics attached to the manufacturer.
Looks like I'm in the Minnesota Walmart holding pattern for a little while longer..........sigh.

The tab does not affect how the hg fits. It is installed correctly as per the instructions. There is no adjustment or shimming etc etc.
It is what it is. It is either the hg or the upper......i have never seen an out of spec picatiny upper (in over 1000) but there is always a 1st.

After all the time, effort, and expense to get that fucking rail shipped to where it needed to be, the thought that it's is defective is............. infuriating.
Let's see what Centurion Arms has to say about it.

Welp, heard back from Centurion Arms. They agree that something is conky wampus with it and have asked for additional pics to help diagnose it. To be fair I have rad that this company has very good customer service so we should hold off on judgment. The response to my email was prompt enough.
I just had several email exchanges in the short time since the above post. They will attempt to determine if the rail is defective when they receive the requested pics. If so they have comitted to an exchange.
I think what I'm gonna do is request my trip home now, I'm not willing to delay my hometime any longer for this thing. I will coordinating the pics and further remedial actions in person. The inaugural range trip will have to wait another month.

Pod, Centurion should get you squared away, sounds like they're not punting on the problem.
Defects happen unfortunately, even to the best of companies.
Seekins had some problems years back when they first rolled their new SP3R handguards mating up with the irmt-r uppers, but they made things right and fairly quickly fixed the problem.

Yes it sounds that they are going to fix the problem whatever it may be. Shit happens, what can you do?

I though I had a spare receiver so I could measure the diameter and distance from the top of the rail but I have no way to verify it. I will keep looking for one. I am sure it is in a box somewhere.
So I am not 100% sure this is the precise measure. The tolerances should be within 4 thou realistically and conform to Mil. Standard 1913
The critical measure is to measure the diameter and divide it by two plus the distance from the shank receiver to the top of the rail. That is the distance from top to center of the bore.
