Cover the ejection port in wax and put your coat of arms seal over it to show tampering.Then there is the liability and insurance aspect.
As a mechanic, I should have a policy on my tool box at work. From past experience, the owner will not cover any loss to my property.

When I was in the Air Force, living in the dorms, we were not allowed to keep our personal firearms in our living quarters.
We could store them in an armory.
Stories were told of SPs ( military cops), firing and fondling guns that were stored there. Don't know how true this was though.
