Yeah I’ve tried that angle, my wife has no interest in guns whatsoever not due to my lack of trying ! The I want to protect us has worn very thin ! Lol

I find that when dealing with new gun people (especially those who are uninterested), its better to present to them as if giving an educational class, rather than to make a sales pitch to them that they need to join the gun-owning community. Regardless of someone's stance on guns, or their inherent preferences/interests, its never a bad idea to learn safety rules and procedures. Kind of liking learning how to drive stick-shift or use a map and compass; you never know when those skill sets will come in handy. Most people can appreciate that mentality.


Otherwise, congrats on the purchase OP. Please post up some pictures when you get a chance and give us a good range report. I've heard a lot of good things about the P226/P229 lineup. I have a revolver for hunting and tracking game, but I'm looking to get a .40s&w semi-auto in the near future for EDC and target shooting. The Sig P226 and the Beretta 96a1, both .40s&w, are the two pistols I'm heavily considering. I like the DA/SA manual of arms inherent to both, though I find the Beretta's can be had for a little bit cheaper oddly enough. I've shot the 96a1, but I only have hands on experience with the P226. So feedback from an owner would be awesome.

I wish SIG did a P220 Legion 10mm in SAO. Boggles my mind that they offer a choice of action for the P226 but not the 220.

You're the only one who can answer that. Are you comfortable running a gun with a safety? Do you prefer a consistent trigger pull with every shot?

For me the answer was yes to both of those questions so I went SAO.

To the OP the Legion would be a great choice if you want a refined pistol. I believe it is the one finest build pistol that I have handled. It does is on par with a high quality 1911 imo.

I personally dont shoot them well but would bet if I spent some time with one that would change. Of the guys I shoot with 2 have legions. One guy shot one hole targets out of the box the other guy did not shoot it well at first but after time that changed.

After dinner last night I fell asleep on the couch so I didnt not make it to the range. One of the guys I know just installed a Grey Ghost flat faced trigger in his Legion That I could have fired.

I dont think you could miss with a legion of a quality 1911.

The gun gods have smiled upon me . My wife put herself in the proverbial dog house yesterday at which point I was very forgiving , didn’t get mad and simply stated I’m buying a new gun !

Keep us informed pleased ... I really like my p320 ... and think that the 226 could be a good fit.down the line .. At some point in time California style gun roster will be on out doorstep... Microstamping and all ....Would like to get something a bit towards the higher end .. Before it becomes impossible

I never shot the 226 legion well till tonight!!! It did have a aftermarket trigger and a spring kit.

The release is a bit of a PITA . I rarely use as a release , usually use the over the top sling shot method for a reload. The real pain was using as a manual slide catch . The cut out in the grip panel is not significant enough to manually push up on the control with my thumb . A standard slide catch lever would remedy this . I can operate it just not as easily as I’d prefer.
Sad to say I won’t have time to actually fire the pistol this weekend, I’m currently dealing with the aftermath of serious plumbing issue I had yesterday at my rental property.

No it was comfortable and with the main string changed it was nice.

The slide release is nice because on the non-legion models many will hit it while shooting and lock the slide back.

I'm the opposite. With my thumbs forward grip I am usually riding the slide release and the gun won't lock back on the last round. After a few mags I alter my thumb placement but I don't like to do that.

Worth is subjective. Objectively speaking if you were to take a standard P226 and add all the various enhancements that a Legion model has you will have spent more money. The extra checkering and radius cuts on the frame in particular would cost a great deal on their own.

No, but Mecgar sells a little cheaper and they or on of the OEMs anyway. Plus they have flush fit 17 rounders instead of the standard 15.

True. Including 3 mags is becoming more common though, which is nice. It's a good number, one in the gun and two for a double mag pouch. 3 is the basic battle belt loadout.

FINALLY I had some time this afternoon to break the cherry on the Sig ( I have never waited sooooo long to break in a new gun ). As I have stated before this is my first DA/SA or Sig for that matter . Since I brought it home I’ve been dry firing it while watching tv at night to get used to the DA pull .

My first impressions of the pistol was it had a nice smooth trigger , clean break and a short reset . The legion finish after unveiling it from the quart of oil the factory drenched it in , was even and cleanly done. The grip felt like a perfect fit to my hand ( I have medium size hands ) . I can imagine it would be comfortable for larger or smaller hands as well . The legion g10 grips are rather comfortably aggressive. The undercut trigger guard is a nice touch.

Today I wasn’t concerned with shooting paper to check accuracy , my objective was to run the DA . While shooting 3 steel silhouette targets from a low ready position I shot double taps to familiarize myself with the DA/SA transition , decocking after the second shot .

The trigger is slick ! I could roll through the DA smoothly with no hitch which allowed for well controlled first shots . The reset reminds me of the timney trigger I have in one of my ARs , short and sweet ... it was almost too short . It kind of felt like I was slapping the trigger . I’m sure this will improve as I learn that sweet spot of the reset.

The sights are reminiscent of the trijicon HD sights. The green around the tritium insert on the front sight is easily acquired in daylight. The rear sight is exactly how I like it to be , it just fades away and doesn’t detract my focus from the front sight .

The legion ate through 300 rounds of 115 Winchester white box ammo without a hiccup. I also shot some hornady critical defense ammo without fail . Next range trip I’ll run some mag tech and blazer brass , which I assume will run just fine .

The legion has knocked my m&p 2.0 5 inch from its title of my favorite range pistol . There is next to no muzzle flip with this pistol , I can run it fast and accurately. The legion is a perfect addition to my gun safe , where I’m sure it won’t spend much time ! This pistol is a great value for the price and I have zero regrets .... well actually I do have one bitch. These damn 10 rd mags suck , just when I start having fun the gun goes dry FUAC !!! I will be ordering more mags tomorrow .
