I think 400 bucks for a old used model Sightmark with some added in red lights is to much. If the lights were IR the price would be better. Being there is no use for red lights when you own a Night Vision Scope.

If you want the Photon I think the newer model off Amazon would be your best bet,,,,,and its less money.
Plus being that its renewed you get a 90 day warranty compared to No warranty for the used old model unit.

Plus the refurbished one is 200 bucks off

Just my opinion,,,,,,Ive hunted fox and coyote many, many times with red lights. A red light scanning light and a red scope light. I have called them in and I have taken shots,,,, but for the amount of times Ive gone out to the amount of times Ive seen shit has been like 1 out of 25 times. Thats why I bought a night vision mono and night vision scope,,,,,,the second time using the night vision I called something in and was luckily able to kill it. Hopefully my luck continues. Not sure if it will though because of the amount of places I have to call. If I would get off my ass and use the onX app I purchased for goose hunting that tells me a bunch of info on who owns the property I seek to hunt,,,getting more permission to hunt these fields would up my chances. Coyote and fox get use to the fake calling,,,,calling an area more than once in a 2 week time period educates them.

I think the red lights spook the animals more often then not.

One more thing,,,,does the XT model have a USB port where you can either plug it into a computer or use the port for a battery bank hookup because a 2 battery unit might be kind of shitty if the batteries run out to soon.

Just looked up the difference and it says the xt has better battery life this might be because the sensor is 40% less than the RT model

I bought this one because it was being mounted to an AR. Little did I know the scope sits way different than a normal scope. I originally had it mounted so I could easily use my charging handle. That made the scope sit to far away from my eye.

Yesterday I took the scope off the gun and off the mount. Turned the mount backwards on the gun and remounted scope.

Today I sighted it in. Kind of a pain in the ass now pulling the charging handle but now the scope sits beautifully up against my eye.

Check out Horn Hill Ranch on YouTube. All he does is nighttime hunting (pigs in Texas).

He also demos equipment for mfgs. Thermals, etc. Most of it is higher end stuff but if you can connect with him, he'll give you real world experience on a lot of different brands.

In my experience, most animals don't see red light. At least, they don't react to it. Rabbits are one exception. They see it and react to it. Green is much the same way. The human eye sees green better than it sees red which is why you need a brighter red light to see as well as with green. However, if you are looking for reflections of eyes from across a field, red lights seem to work better. The green light doesn't seem to reflect off a retina as well. That being said, I believe that FrankenCub said something about being colorblind, hence his search for nightvision optics. When there is snow on the ground, most times I will hunt with a rifle topped with a standard daytime type scope and a mounted red or green light. Plenty visible, and there is no constant eye adjustment between trying to see in the dark and then looking at a illuminated image in the nightvision scope. When there is no snow is when nightvision is at it's peak usefullness.

As far as recorded sounds, coyotes will learn them fast, especially if they associate a sound with a danger like being shot at. Change up your sounds frequently. Use mouth calls in addition to recorded sounds to help keep tjem sounding original.

They might not see red but they for sure see something thats brighter than the darkness they are in and they do react to it. Ive seen it and so has a ton of hunters on predator masters forum.

I should have said that better, I guess. Animals do indeed react to a lightsource. But, in my experience, if the source doesn't move too quickly, or abruptly points into their eyes, you can get away with lighting them up in order to identify and target them.

Just going back to some of your previous posts on night vision videos. I have to say,, videos dont always tell the whole story. I see way better looking through my Sightmark Photon RT than my videos show.

I really like my scope but like Ive said,,,,focus has to be done real slow when needed otherwise it starts to blur, then you have to turn back,,,you get use to it real quick and its not much of a problem. It sucks for daylight in my point of view and its really only good in 4.5 power,,,,9 seems to be never needed and its not as clear.

Something I seen on a Photon XT video, the guy has what i think he called a cat tail on the focus ring. Maybe that would help more carefully focusing? Looks handy, can use a finger to move it either way. I was also looking at the Sightmark Wraith. $500 and has color daytime view, and looks crisp and clear. Only place i seen them in stock though is ebay with a $50 mark up. But, that's even more money and I still have yet to sell my Encore lmao.

Looked at the Wraith before I bought the Photon and thought it got way to many bad reviews. Real reviews not Amazon bitch and whine reviews

$600 bucks will get you a Renewed monocular and Renewed scope off Amazon, just like mine. The monocular is sweet and the scope you will get use to after using it a couple of times. 225 for monocular 359 for scope,,,,,,,,,,,,and if you keep watching or download the Honey app on your computer it will watch it for you,,,,the prices could go down
