Slide on my Ruger LCPII won’t go back

Trade it in for something new. Doesnt make sense to put more money into a gun that you will always be second guessing.

I don’t disagree but it’s been 100% reliable up until now and the size gun works well for me. I really like this gun actually. I did read up and essentially the coating is just a very cheap bluing and the corrosion resistance is slim to none. Not sure though as most places want $200 to cost the slide and barrel. Not sure it’s worth that.

Have it cold blued. Use 0000 steel wool and some kroil. Then remove all solvent and Cold Blue with 44/40 or another good blue agent. Rub with a good oil to seal the bluing.

Just keep it oiled once you get the rust off. My wife carries it everyday on her waist with no issue. I once a week take it apart and wipe it down with mobil one synthetic 5w20.

It doesn’t need to be re-oiled and wiped since the motor oil lasts so long but I do it anyway.

Looking at having it nitride coated. I have that on my other gun and love it.

Have the whole slide and barrel done in TiN.

What ammo you been putting thru the gun? - A few years ago, a friend put a few boxes of Wolf ammo thru his mini-30 - 5 days later, the barrel was full of rust, - just saying. He blamed corrosive primers.

That could be it. I shot it not too long before this happened and didn’t clean it for the first time ever immediately after firing it. I used federal ammo though.

Well Ruger failed to contact me and it’s been a week. I contact 4-5 places that do nitride, TIN, and cerakoting and not one emailed me back except H&M metal processing. They want $250 for a lot. I’m in the process of finding out what a lot size is. I have another slide and barrel that I will send in if possible. $250 is a little steep since I only paid $200 for the gun but if I can get other things done for that price it’s a bargain. Most want $200 just for a slide and barrel. They seem like a reputable company and do work for nasa, nascar, and pro shooters. I’ll update you guys when I know more.

I’m guessing none of the other places called me back because I said I can strip the slide and the old finish off what’s the cost to just cerakote it. I have access to a blasting cabinet and could prep it. I’m guessing no one wanted to bother with just a recoat. I’m not laying them $55 to punch out one pin and remove the extractor on my LCPII. That’s the easiest gun in the world to strip. 5 minute job.
