Smith & Wesson Performance Center 22 Victory

Hi folks —

Has anyone had any success purchasing the Performance Center version of the S&W 22 Victory? This tricked out version seems great for steel challenge and bullseye, but it also comes with one of those scary looking compensators (FUAC). Unfortunately, but understandably, S&W doesn’t have a non-threaded barrel version in their Performance Center lineup.

So, am I chasing a unicorn in attempting to buy this straight out, or am I better off simply buying the non-threaded base model and doing my own upgrades later? In my gut, I already know the answer (FUAC, again), but I’d like to hear from others who have also been considering a Performance Center model.

Some places will transfer a pistol with a threaded barrel I’ve heard, but they clearly ban them under the safe act.

I’d buy a regular one and do tour own upgrades.

Yeah, sucks but sounds like your only option is to buy a standard model and upgrade it your self.
You can put better stuff on than what S&W does anyway.

For what it's worth I rarely see any of them at a steel challenge match. The new Ruger Mark IV seems to have taken over in the rimfire pistol arena.

Looked at the Mark IV for a bit, but they just didn’t feel as balanced in my hands as the Victory did. Both fine pistols, but I ended up going with a SW22 Victory Target Edition which is essentially just the basic Victory enhanced with Target sights and a polished feed ramp for only $20 more. Upgrading afterwards definitely makes the most sense for a number of reasons.

Oh, and FUAC.
