What thermal are you using ? I bought a FLIR Thermosight Pro PTS 536. My first thermal unit. It works awesome !!!! I wound up getting it for just under $ 3200. Most places selling it for $ 3800 or more. I'm super happy with it, but it eats batteries. The only other thing is the focus ring is very hard to adjust.

My newest(2018) is a Pulsar trail XQ50, but that headed back to pulsar for some service last week.
I know the issue I have with it can't be fixed, so I'm hoping to make a deal for a Thermion XP38.
Before that I had an Apex XQ38, but that ate CR123 batteries like pez candy, so I sold that to get the Trail.
I killed a lot of critters with that Apex and the controls were left hand friendly, but I didn't have an uncle in the battery business.
I also had a POS ATN thermal that I ended up running over with a ranger utv in 2017.
I didn't mean to do it, but I was better off in the long run and thinking about it, I should've ran over the X sight too !
I like Flir and the core they use.
Top notch, but I didn't like the 4X base magnification and the CR123 battery.
My Pulsars had a base mag of 2.5x and a wider field of view for close work.
I try to keep my shots as close as I can.
FLIR is getting out of the consumer market, So hopefully they'll take care of you if something happens with your scope in the future.
JamieZ is on his way to the darkside and Hopefully we'll be reading/viewing his first NV kill soon.

I bought the FLIR because of the price. My choice was between the FLIR 536 and the Pulsar XQ50. A bunch of people told me to take the Pulsar. $ 1000 difference in price made the choice easy. When the price was only a couple hundred difference, I was leaning Pulsar. I liked the battery better. When I got the huge discount offer for the FLIR, I went with it. Not disappointed, but it does go through batteries like a cop eats Timbits. It has some really nice features, most of which I haven't figured out yet. An external battery pack is available, and I will probably pick one up, but it compromises the watertight integrity of the scope when in use. It really is a game-changer for predators though. Especially when scanning.

ATN.......... maybe I should just stay silent.....nothing good to say about them. That discussion was covered in the Thermal Imaging Riflescope thread a couple months ago.

Clip on's are great for the person that has one rifle, but that weapon needs to have a full rail to mount it.
Some clip ons can be converted for use as a spotter too, so double duty.
Some people don't like to remove their day optics from their rifles and a clip on is a perfect solution for them.
It's still a thermal unit, so it's gonna cost you.
The bering optics hogster C is a great unit.
I wouldn't take any ATN optic, even if you paid me.

Also, Are you hunting out in the elements ?
If so, you should look into getting some type of 2 person lightweight pop up blind.
Perfect for keeping you out of the weather and hiding your movement and scent.
If you set up a bait pile, a good pop up braced for snow and wind can actually make it enjoyable to hunt, especially when you add a mr buddy heater to the mix.

Yeah I just read some of the reviews now. Bet they're having problems with the voltage regulator at the + tip.
I kinda like that battery bank anyway, that thing will keep reserve power for a long time.

I've been using the PowerX and XXX 2700 Mah rechargeable batteries for years.
You need to get a special battery charger for them.

It's a standard 12 volt 5 Ah lead acid battery. Everything is attached to a wood cutting board as a single unit. I even have 6" legs that can be inserted in the bottom of the board to get it up off the ground.

Certainly may have been a factor. There's some coyotes that are in our yards a lot, if I light them at night when I take the dogs out I wont see them again for a week or so usually. If keep the light away they'll be around almost daily. We have rabbits all over and a neighboring hobby farm has a lot of cats. Plenty of food running around. It's not often I see any coyotes during the day around here. Maybe 3 times in the past year.

I have this little puffer bottle with a super fine powder in it for checking wind direction that I started using. Even the slightest breeze that I wouldn't notice has winded me before. It works great. Even a wind that wont move a blade of grass will float it around.
I still need to track down some property owners to ask permission to hunt. I haven't had the gumption to do it not having a NV scope yet. Wife said she was going to get one as a birthday present but now with her son's snowmobile accident I dont want her to. She's going to have a lot of money going out for that as it is.
