Two Democratic state lawmakers on Monday called for an excise tax on ammunition production in New York to generate funding for gun violence research.


The measure backed by state Sen. Andrew Gounardes and Assemblywoman Pat Fahy would tax ammo production between two and five cents.


Lawmakers backing the bill want to bolster funding for the state's newly created research fund for studying gun violence, which is part of the state Department of Health and the State University of New York.

Non-commercial will continue. I doubt any of you guys who are reloading will be paying this tax.

Typical democrat stuff, a “ feel good “ measure without looking at its actual effects. Police departments are having a hard time paying for ammo now. They raise the cost, it means less training for police officers and those who legally carry guns. Do they really want less trained gun owners?

Without a draft bill, who knows what they are going for but nearly all ammo production I am aware, is produced outside of this God foresaken state.

That won't stop the lefty Feds.

In the last congress HR 5717 called for a 50% tax on ammo sales and a 30% tax on firearms.

Sounds like an infringement from my cheap seats.

I don’t really care I’ll just buy my ammo in PA if I need to or if it’s cheaper. I’ll buy it once a year and spend a few thousand in one shot. Nothing o can do will stop these animals anyway.
