State Police on Long Island arrest Pennsylvania man for felony gun possession

On Sunday, July 25, 2021, at approximately 2:18 pm, State Police stopped a vehicle for speeding on the Southern State Parkway eastbound near exit 43 in the town of Islip, Suffolk County.

The driver, Jude Charles, 34 of Darby, Pennsylvania, was driving on a suspended license and found to be in possession of a loaded handgun without a New York pistol permit.

Oh, please. He was speeding. He was arrested for a suspended license. That’s a “must arrest” in NYC . He had gun he knew was illegal New York. This wasn’t someone who just crossed a border by mistake.
The officers did a good job.

Lack of context on your part.
Suspended license arrest became mandatory after a number of fatal accidents and the drivers had their license suspended numerous times. Suspended license is the punishment for another driving offense and driving is a violation of that punishment. Sort of like violation of one’s parole.
And what I read in the article, he was arrested in Long Island . That’s not New York City. The politics are different than NYC

The fact remains, suspended license = missing paperwork.

They reason they revoked it is irrelevant.

Not missing paperwork. They are officially banned from driving in the state of New York.
If you get a suspended license in New York and go get another driver’s license from another state. Even with the valid license of that other state, if you are driving in NYS, you will be arrested. It’s not a lack of paperwork. It’s failure to respond to the “ court” hearing that gets your license suspended if it was not already imposed at hearing as a punishment.
